Itchy Skin But Nothing There

For a few years now I have been suffering from serious itching on my left ankle and below my left knee.

The skin on my ankle is thickened but there is nothing else to see that could be causing it to itch so badly.

I have been to the doctor a few times with it and they prescribe a steroid cream which is fine when I use it but if I stop then the itching is as bad as ever.

My partner suggested that a nerve could cause it as below my knee apart from redness from me scratching it madly there is nothing to see.

Please help:confused:

Thanks bigdak.
