Shoulder Injury? muscle spasms/numbness

My shoulder has been spasming/twitching for three or four weeks now. It twitches vertically right between the anterior and lateral deltoid. It does this most pronounced after raising up my arm laterally (abduction) and then returning my arm back to a relaxed position. After returning my arm back to the relaxed position it seems to take a moment for my deltiod to relax or "unball" so to speak. After a moment it relaxes but begins to spasm a lot....although it spasms without stimulation as well sometimes.I still have full range of motion in my shoulder but my shoulder feels strange with a certain amount of discomfort that is diffucult to explain because it doesn't really hurt but is just "uncomfortable."Recently I have also felt a sensation of numbness across the skin of my anterior deltoid. Not pins and needles though....just a slight numbness. When I follow my finger down my collarbone just before my AC joint my anterior delt feels somewhat fiberous or rigid....right where it connects to my collarbone.Could this be bursitis? Possibly a muscle tear right around my anterior deltoid? Could these conditions cause muscle spasms and numbness??

  • No.... D.O. suspected it was traped nerve localized in the shoulder somewhere. It has not gotten worse, and perhaps has gotten a bit better, but still something feels "off" in there somehow. I suspect it was the aftermath of an acute injury to the shoulder that I didn't realize until it was too late.

  • Pity you didn't find an answer as I appear to have almost the same symptoms, except I get pins & needles down my arm & hand. The muscle twitching is annoying & I seem to be always moving my arm, neck or posture to cause it to stop, then I'll move a bit & it returns!!!!

  • Hi, today i decide to search the net to see if i can find some explanation, with my deltoid muscle twitching. It does the samething as anabolism explained. its been going on and off for the past 1yr. gets worse when i am exercising, obviously because i am moving my arm. when i start running, i jog swinging my arm, then the nerve sensation runs thru my left arm and i have to run with my arn in a 90 degree angle. its a bit awkward. I must have pinched my axillary nerve perhaps wheni i would do over head shoulder raises? just curious for some answers and if will this be a lifelong condition. THANKS

  • I think my problem must be in my neck because when I move my neck slightly the twitching and/or the pins & needles will stop, move it back a little & it starts again. It's worse when I sleep on my right side, however this morning I noticed it for the first time when I was laying on my left side. Arrr! this is driving me mad!!!

  • haha. my shoulder is twitching every 20 seconds for a week now. this is crazy. I am a powerlifter and recently injured a front delt so I have been doing a lot of back work and rear delt work while I compensate and let my front delts and shoulders in general rest for a few months. Now I am getting these twitches. it freaks me out. even as I am typing it is twitching. its something between the rear and side delt. I saw it in the mirror and it looks like a deep slit contracting on the side of my shoulder really gross. It feels like those wire things you attach like on that ******s movie.

It is possible that you:a) have a rotator cuff tear, thus eliciting pain with raising.b) a Cervical (neck) disc bulge/herniation, thus eliciting numbness and spasm.c) Brachial Plexus injury, " "You should first see a Shoulder Specialist. Orthopedic Specialist. Have them order an X-ray and MRI of the neck and shoulder.

  • Hey, I just got this yesterday. I was hoping it would go away after a night's sleep, but it has not. I'm 99% certain this is from a pinched nerve seeing as I've had a lot of experience with other nerve problems: carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, and another place of pinching in my shoulder that causes my 3rd and 4th finger to hurt, and then numb feet...all except the shoulder one were developed over time from working fast food jobs for less than half a year each time. However, my current problem is like as described here, spasms in the front of my shoulder, and then numbness along my deltoids. This is definitely NOT caused by some repeat stressor though. One stupid time of getting kinky with my bf, lying down but handcuffed, arms above me head for, oh, probably an hour, and now I have this. This is definitely the cause, the moment I moved my arms down they were like lead weights, and I noticed the rest of the symptoms. Its in both arms, however my left one is much worse, as the numbness is way worse, and its super weak. I was hoping to find a 'fix' where I could position my arm in some way so as to make it go away, as has been the case for most of my other compressed nerve problems. Certain positions make the muscle spasms worse, like when my arms are close to the body, but the numbness doesn't go away at all.If someone can figure out a way for this to go away, or thinks that it will eventually just go away for me because its not a repetitive injury, please let me know.
