Son with multiple skin abcesses

My 22 yr old son has been having an ongoing problem with skin abcesses. His GP has sent him to a hematologist.oncologist that did alot of blood work and a CT scan. Tomorrow, he is having a bone marrow biopsy. His spleen is enlarged and his blood count is out of whack. (elevated WBC). I was thinking it could be mono because he has alot of those symptoms but it soesn't expain the abcesses. Doc mentioned lymphoma?????

they should also test for leukemiaBone marrow biopsy was done this morning. Did not go well. Not sure if not enough pain med or sedation was used but never saw my son in so much pain or heard him cry out like that before. Hope he never has to go through that agin. My 18 year has been going through painful absesses for four months. She's 12 boils (staph) back to back and as many as three at one time. Her boyfriend was hospitalized for five days with just one boil.I took my daughter to an infectous desease DR. Not to worry. She has MRSA, a staph infection resistant to anibiotics. She uses Bactiban cream twice a day in each nostril. No new absesses for three weeks. If they reoccur she may have to get Vancomicin (very strong antibiotic) thru an IV to clear the infection from her body. Try an Infectous Decease DR. Hi, I have the same as your son, it's a living ***l, I bet he's got cellulitest and feels like every nerve ending is on fire .also, and is getting pnemonia also. muscel spasem's so bad all he can do is scream, thats if can scream because the pain's so bad, it's MRSA. if you come to this site you'll , and your son will find help and support , they won't help me either ,and they gave it to me throught a blood test, you can e-mail me if you like lladyhawk@hotmail.com when I able to get the energy I get on line or if I'm in alot of pain and need to try to get my mind of the fact I wish someone would knock me outAnonymous 42789 Replies Flag this Response

I have the same problem and it is most likely MRSA. It can also cause swelling of limbs and sunburn like cellulitus. I have had it for over seven years with no diagnosis. It doesnt show up in the blood because its in the upper layers of the skin. It can also be complicated by Malasezzia which is a fungus that grows over the lesion areas. There are only a few antibiotics that will kill it one being Vancomycin which must be administered in a hospital IV. I found that Erythromycin 500mg will help to a certain extent. Hibiclens (Chlorohexadine) will help topically as will Iodine. One of the best mixtures I found to dry up the lesions was a concoction of 8ozs Alcohol, 2 TBSP Boric Acid and 16 drops of Gentian Violet. This is a great antifungal, antibacterial wash you can make yourself. Heat is what kills Staph best but can be painful. The trick is to dry out the lesions. If you can get the antibiotics it will help a lot. See an infectious disease doctor if you can get one to see you. Ive been trying for seven years:)Anonymous 42789 Replies Flag this Response
