First – a horrible sore throat, so swollen that I have difficulty swallowing
Next - my throat improves but I lose my voice, as if the infection is moving down my trachea
Finally – my throat recovers as it hits my lungs, and I spend the next 7-10 days coughing deeply, at first unproductively, only towards the end do I finally cough up dense green phlegm

My doctor dismissed my illness as acute bronchitis, but I don't believe he's right. At no time during the illness do I have a fever or fatigue or any of the typical signs of infection. In fact, aside from the above localized symptoms, I feel perfectly fine and go about my day to day routine. Other than a slight increase in mucus, my sinuses are not at all affected.

This illness reoccurs 2-3 times a year. It's to the point now that when I wake up with the sore throat I can look at a calendar and accurately predict on which day I'll lose my voice, and when I can expect the coughing to start and end.

It's almost like I have some virus that just sits dormant until something triggers it.
