Purple skin

:confused:My boyfriend's skin color turns dark reddish-purple on his legs, torso, and hands, sometimes after exercise, sometimes just sitting around. When I press on it with a fingertip the impression turns bright white and goes away in a few seconds. The skin is always warm like normal, not cold. He's had a spinal/neck injury about 10 yrs ago and chronic pain since. I'm not sure if that's part of the problem or it these coloration symptoms are from somthing else. I seem to remember reading about these symptoms somewhere but cant remember if it was heart related, circulatory related, or what. Anyone heard of this?

Hi, what other symptoms are present? I have a problem with a vivid purple mottle on the skin and have been told that it can be a result of a systemic illness, such as auto immune diseases.

Does his lips turn blue also ? The body being starved of oxygen can turn u blue, 2 things that i know (but remember there could be more) There could possibly be a problem with his heart possibly a valve or something like that. The other cause also could be a problem with his lungs......if u google Hypoxia it would tell u about different lung problem/disease's. Has he any other symptoms ? breathing ? chest pain ? palpations ? tingling ? anything at all ?  does he smoke ? what does he work at, anything that could cause irritations to his lungs ? Also remember members here are not doctors.......generally we just talk about what we personally know about. Also have had spinal injury also & cronic pain, low oxygen.... How is this all affecting him ?

Neither the lips nor the thinner skin on his face turn colors, they look normal. I've noticed when his hands turn this reddish-purple, his nail beds look dark too. He's not experiencing any pain, tingling or numbness with the color changes. He doesn't smoke, exercises regularly, although I do notice it happens after he's exerted himself through exercise. But then sometimes it just happens when he's sitting around. He's relatively healthy, no asthmas or anything to explain a lack of oxygen. The neck injury causes constant 24/7 pain, so much so that it brings on nausea. I seem to remember the discoloration being a symptom of a heart problem or something but cannot find the article that described what the cause could be.
