I am going to list the random symptoms and conditions that have plagued me for years. I don't know which if any of these are connected but I'm sure there is one central diagnosis for all of this. A 23 year old, otherwise healthy woman, should not have so many random things wrong with her.

I am anemic and was told that it is geographically common since my anscestors are from Sicily. I get the iron I need from a multi vitamin and green vegetables as I am not a big red meat eater. When I was 16 years old I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) I began taking Orthotricyclin Lo to treat it. I still continue to have lower abdominal tenderness and pain/swelling. I have regular pap smears done every 3-6 mos and had one come back bad two years ago. Dr's said something about sqamous cell changes. I had a biopsy done and was told it was Low Grade. I have not had any bad tests come back since. Whenever I complain about pain/swelling a urinanysis is done and I am always told there is blood/protein in my urine.

I suffer from chronic yeast infections which used to recur every month either a week before or a week after my cycle. I take generic diflucan basically as a maintenance drug and 9-10 different yeast blocking dietary supplemants (incuding oil of oregano, grapefruit seed extract, candidase, olive leaf, acidophilus, black walnut hulls). I have had a couple of UTI's diagnosed over the years but am reluctant to take antibiotics because of the fear of yeast infections. I also take a cranberry suppliment for urinary tract health.

I also saw an ovarian specialist in Manhattan who diagnosed me with prediabetes. I began removing sugar from my diet and the yeast infections lessened. I also began to feel better as far as energy was concerned as I was quite tired frequently before this. This started to make sense because I used to do the atkins diet and was surprised at how good I felt on a low sugar, low carb diet.

I was hospitalized twice in 2008 for severe stabbing pain on my right side that felt like something was stuck between my ribs. It would get very sharp at the peak of a deep breath. After having several ultrasounds, CT scans (of the liver, kidneys, gallbladder, lungs, and pancreas), and chest xrays, all results were normal. I was consistantly leaving Dr's offices and hospitals with perscriptions for oxycodone, vicodin, codeine, and was given morphene in the hospital. Finally after seeing a gastrointerologist and having an endoscopy performed I was diagnosed with costocondritis or inflamation of the ribs and was treated for two weeks with prescription strength motrin.

Recently I started experiencing pain in my jaw accompanied by clicking and locking. I thought I had an ear infection but my dentist thinks it is the beginnings of TMJ and gave me anti-inflammatories. After the prescription finishes he plans to take impressions of my teeth and make me a mouth guard to wear when I sleep because he thinks that I clench my teeth at night.

Aside from these more serious symptoms I usually get really tired mid-day, have noticed trouble with cuts and bruises healing. Over the summer I assumed I was getting mosquito bites and although I scratched them a bit it was not enough for there to be a sore about twice the size of the "bite" that would get dark reddish and scaly. Other cuts from shaving or scratches would get a hard scab but not really heal and after months of having a scab it would scar. In addition to getting tired mid-day I have noticed that I cannot exercise much because I get out of breath and dizzy very quickly. I cannot really even make it up the two flights of stairs from my basement with a load of laundry in hand without having to sit down and wait for the gray spots in front of my eyes to go away. I am becoming near sighted and am realizing that I'm a bit hard of hearing because my live in bf consistantly comments on how loud I keep the television.

I am soooo frustrated. I am almost 24 years old and feel like I have everything in the world wrong with me. I don't even like going to Dr's anymore because I feel like theyre going to think I'm nuts. My last relationship of 4 years ended because I was constantly sick and hardly interested in sex. Luckily now I'm with the most wonderful man I've ever known and surprising I'm able to have a very active sex life now that the yeast infections have ceased.

I am desperate for someone to tell me what is wrong or what I need to do to get better. I have read every piece of literature at my disposal and the only thing I can come up with is that it is all yeast related. It seems that an overgrowth of yeast in the body can cause a myriad of different problems but I am yet to find a physician who will subscribe to and support my theory. Please help...only serious responses please. If anyone has suffered from even some of these symptoms please feel free to reply. Thank You!

  • I have not suffered from the symptoms you talk about, but I have experienced illness, that doctors cannot diagnose, and know how frustrating it is. Recently, I have been on antibiotics for months with a chronic infection, and doctors do not know the cause. The one thing I have learned is that there are many underlying causes of illness, one which you mentioned was yeast. Not many traditional doctors are well versed on yeast isssues, and that may be very well what is underlying your symptoms. Something that popped into my mind is, have you been tested for lyme and other co-infections? Make sure tests are western blot, and preferably Igenex Labs. There are many underlying bacterial infections which cannot be determined by traditional blood tests, such as mycoplasma and chlamydia pneumonia (not the sexually transmitted kind), and can cause many symptoms. My recommendation is for you to seek out a doctor that specializes in both traditional and alternative therapies. It may be that you need to be treated for yeast, or maybe you have celiac disease and cannot eat wheat, and that is causing the problems. Good Luck, I hope you can get to the bottom of this...I am going to list the random symptoms and conditions that have plagued me for years.
