My 16- month old son woke up this morning at 2:30 am screaming and crying. I went to his crib and found out that he vomited. He continued to vomit until 6:30 am. The first 15 minutes were the worse. He was vomiting nonstop. Most of the stuff came up but he also had dry heaves in which nothing came up. It was terrible because 1. He has never vomited before and was really frightened. 2. He seemed to be gasping for air into between his vomiting. Things started to slow down, he would vomit every 2 minutes and then every 4 minutes and so on until his vomiting stopped between 1 hour intervals. We called his doctor and he recommended pedialtyle and gingerale.

My son had a double ear infection and was on antibotics for 10 days. This was his last day. I miscounted the days and accidentally gave him 12 days of antibotics. The next thing that comes to mind, is that I made pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. He has had small amounts of pork chops in the past, but was devouring the pulled pork (which was a pork roast) for dinner. That is what he ended up vomiting (what a stink:eek: ). When he was vomiting, I noticed alot of gooey gel substance in his vomit. He had diarrhea the next day for most of the day and noticed a gooey gel like substance in his diarrhea too. I am wondering if I gave him too much antibotics and/or if he has an allergic reaction to pork?

Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you.

  • Vomiting and diarrhea may side effects of antibiotic, but in such cases they are usually mild. Symptoms you describe sound rather like food poisoning.

When people with damaged intestines eat, the indigested food reaches the blood stream. So it is not surprising that now he will start developing allergies to food, asthma, inflammation, etc. Remember, antibiotics are molds. They are strong enough to kill the cells from the intestinal membranes. To reverse the damage, you need to give him probiotics, spoons of omega 3 fatty acids, and a good children supplement with minerals and vitamins. If this problem is not addressed, he will start having malabsorption, and therefore he will be more prone to get sick.Eventually you need to get him tested for allergies. Best.
