I am a 17 female who has had a history of very long heavy periods. The last five months or so has been constant bleeding, ranging from light to extremely heavy (usually heaviest around the normal time of my period). I've seen two different doctors, and my family doctor put me on birth control last month. Since then, the bleeding has only increased, and my normal period time is filled with painful cramps and a much heavier flow. When telling doctors about it, they usually don't take me seriously and brush it off, even though I can feel the effects of an iron deficiency. My mother told me that the only way to get them to try anything is to go into their office and tell them what tests I want or to tell them what I want to try. However everyone else with this problem seems to have been fixed with birth control, so I don't know what to ask my doctors for. What kind of tests should I be asking for? The blood throughout the month is much thinner and lighter than my normal cycle and it comes in weird flows.
