The opening to my throat is only about the size of a quarter. I have had MRI, barium swallow, several times they went through my nose and my throat to view with a scope. I have had blood tests. I have been given steroids (didn't do anything), heartburn medication galore, allergy tests. The allergy tests did show some allergies to my surroundings but taking claritin didn't do a thing and I have no other symptoms.
It all started several years ago I had a bad strep throat, the anti-biotics didn't take care of it the first time and it came right back and made my glands and soft pallet swollen but it wasn't bad then and was tolerable. Two years ago I caught a bad cold that turned into a sinus infection and my soft pallet swelled more and was uncomfortable, I started going to a ENT and did all kinds of tests and stuff, nothing helped, she then trimmed my uvula to give me some relief, it was kind of gagging me all the time. I felt better and had relief for about 2 weeks then I caught another cold that turned into a sinus infection and the soft pallet swelled again and is now affecting me terribly and they have no answers for me and will not do any surgery. They said that my tonsils are a 2 so don't need taken out but they offer me no help at all and i can't stand this. It is affecting my sleep, eating and is touching my tongue 24/7. it is scratchy feeling. I am going to another doc for another opinion, I sure hope he can help me?

  • I went to this doctor and he tried to tell me it is all in my head when it is plain to see there is a problem and the opening to my throat is narrow, all my other doctors know of my problem they just don't know what to do other than surgery and refuse to do surgery because of my age. I guess I am to wait until it closes completely before they do anything.

  • Well after several more doctors, no one knows why this is happening or how to fix it. One doctor has said that she will consider removing my tonsils if I decide to go that route since this has been such a chronic ongoing condition. I have tried everything suggested to me and nothing has helped. It has only gotten worse over the years.
