Temple tenderness Prednisone helped. Blood tests show no inflammation What could it be?

I had extreme tenderness in a small, specific area of my temple. Since I was in the 3rd world, I self-diagnosed. I thought it was temporal arteritis, so I took Prednisone - for 2 months.
Now, back in the US, blood tests show no inflammation and the Dr. (rheumatologist) has no idea what it was.
