Hi. I am a 26 year old female. For the past year I have been suffering from a condition that no one can seem to diagnose or treat. I had a sudden onset of extremely red and swollen fingers. It almost looks as if I stuck half of my hands into boiling water. The only thing that has ever cleared the condition was prednisone - but when discontinued after 6 months, came back even more aggressive. I am absolutely miserable and want to get my hands back. This is debilitating and so frustrating. Desperate for opinions and answers.

  • Hey anonymous, I really wonder how your hands are doing right now. The backs of your hands and fingers as well as your fingernails looked just like mine did when I was overusing topical corticosteroids on my hands. Are you aware of topical steroid addiction/withdrawal? I would recommend checking out ITSAN.org and talking to your doctor (the one who prescribed you prednisone) about topical steroid addiction because your hands tell me that the steroids are what are causing your problems. Withdrawal is ***l, there's no way to sugarcoat that, but it's the only path to cure.
