Last year a blood test revealed that I had very low sodium levels. Over a period of several months I had begun noticing some difficulty with concentration and a slowing of my overall thought processes. After undergoing many different tests, I was diagnosed with SIADH. No underlying cause was discovered until after seeing many different doctors one suggested that I have a test for Sleep Apnea.
A sleep test revealed that I did have severe Sleep Apnea. It took several months of adjusting to the CPAP “breathing machine” but my symptoms gradually improved during that time as the Sleep Apnea improved. Now my sodium levels are back to the normal range and I feel well again. The affect of the CPAP treatment was amazing.
I had no idea before this experience that a sleep disorder could result in such severe symptoms such as what I experienced. It is my hope that people will learn to investigate Sleep Apnea when experiencing any symptoms from hyponatremia or SIADH for which there is no other obvious cause.
