Lower Leg Pain

I have been experiencing pain in the outside of my lower thigh approximately three inches above the knee on and off again for about nine months, without it worsening or improving. The sensation is very achy and is localized to one small area. Placing pressure on the area seems to help a little bit--it is definitely not sensitive to the touch. There is no redness or swelling. I have been to a GP who doesn't believe it do be any type of nerve damage or blood clots. X-rays also reveal nothing.
