My doctor want to raise my BP medication. He didn't suggest home monitoring. What should I do?

My husband thinks my doctor is being irresponsible to change/raise my BP medication to something that has a whole slew of possible side effects. He thinks I should have a couple of weeks of in-home monitoring to see if I am spiking while at his office. What do you think?
