My dad has been an alcoholic for 18 years. He has been in and out of rehab but has always returned to the alcohol. Last week he lost the entire use of his legs. He has to shuffle on his bum and he is refusing to go the doctors. He has brittle bones and in the last six months he has broken his hip and shattered his shoulder.

I have looked everywhere and I can't find the answer to my questions. Does anyone have any experience of this and if so could you tell me what could be the next stage of his alcoholism and what is likely to be the prognosis?

  • You didn't state his age. I would imagine his bones would have more to do with his age than alcoholism. Alcoholism tends to effect internal organs more so than motor skills although it's very possible.
