I have had sensitivity or tenderness directly in the middle of my spine (on the bone) for several months. Many times through out the day I have had cold tingling sensation shoot up my back, just to the left of my spine. I have not been able to find anything online that can direct me. I have talked to an anesthesiologist that says it most likely has nothing to do with my epidural I had six months ago. I am nervous to spend a fortune on tests and was wondering if anyone knows the cause of these symptoms. Thank you.

  • I too have a very bad spine, 6 herinated thoracic disks. Had a neck operation helped with some of the weird symtoms. Have you had an MRI? This took 2 and half years to diaganose me. I knew I wasn't making these things up. I now am armed with the correct tests and I have to decide if the operation is worth the pain and money. Lois

  • I would check out to see if you might have a small spinal fluid leak. That doctor has NO way of knowing that it had nothing to do with your epidural. It probably MOST CERTAINLY does and with tingling and numbness could be dangerous.Or ,the epidural person could have damaged a spinal nerve.YOULL BE OK{SORRY CAPITALS WONT SHUT OFF}..BUT GET CHECKED OUT..SEE AN INTERNIST AND INSIST ON REFFERAL TO A NEURO GUY..IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO DO IF POSSIBLE LEAK. I DESPISE DOCTORS WHO SAY "NOTHING TO DO WITH IT "BASED ON NO EVIDENCE ... HE CANT STATE THAT WITHOUT A TEST..SPINAL FLUID LEVEL.. MRI ETC.. THIS IS A GREAT SITE.. YOU NEED TO BE YOR OWN ADVOCATE BIG TIME IN HEALTH CARE!!THIS HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER AND AFTER BEING REALLY INSISTANT SHE DID INDEED HAVE A LEAK FROM THE EPIDURAL . SHES FINE BUT THEY NEEDED TO PATCH IT..{ NOT A BIGGIE..LITTLE BLOOD PATCH LIKE A TINY CLOT} IF THEY HURT A SMALL NERVE MAY NEED TO LET IT JUST HEAL BUT NEED TO RULE OUT THE LEAK FOR SURE. GET YOUR RECORDS FROM HOSPITAL ON SURGERY AND EPIDURAL NOTES RIGHT AWAY..SO YOULL HAVE THEM AND KNOW WHO DID YOUR EPIDURAL AND HAVE THEM WHENYOU GET CHECKED OUT. ..BEST..A NURSE FRIEND.

LoisHi You mentioned you had a neck operation, was this for prolapsed discs? I have some terrible nerve pain in my neck and just wondered if that was the operation you had, only the specialist has suggested I have the op and I just wanted to talk to someone who had had it done. Thanks K

  • Yes I had C5 and C6 done. Titanium disk and steel cage on the inside. I'm six months out and doing very well. I had so many symtoms that I can't name them all. Ask all the questions you want. Not sure what you need to know. Before the op I couldn,t walk and two weeks out from the surgery I could walk 2 miles and at week three I was walking 6 miles. But that was to far. I didn't have a collar cut my meds back after week one. I do what mt neuro says and it has gone very well. So ask away! Lois

  • I am so nervous to have a surgery I don't feel (in my gut) is necessary. I have an aching forearm, sometimes my thumb and first finger go numb... and many other symptoms that could confirm C567 diagnosis. However, I do not have pain in my actual spine. I can turn my head, the arm/hand issues are not painful just hypersensitive and achy and sometimes weak. The pain I do have is quite a bit lower than the area they are treating. I feel it is in the C7 and lower range. It is a sharp stabbing sensation that comes from out of nowhere sometimes. It actually makes me jump and cry out. Positional? NO. It is everyday with or without activity. I have tried traction, P.T., several nerve root blocks as well as trigger point injections and a whole spectrum of meds. I just worry because everyone keeps asking about the "pain" in my neck and arm. There is no pain except for the stabbing sensation that is lower and very localized. I have had a few different M.D's opinions, now I have to decide my next step in my treatment. If anyone relates closely to this or if anyone has had a cervical fusion Please respond I need you!!! How bad was it? If your symptoms were similar did they go away? Any encouraging word would be welcomed. Thanks!

  • Dear Cervical Fusion Canidate,I was going thru what you have discribes and more starting Feb 05 and I tried all the conventional and non-conventional treatments out there. I was in so much pain I had the surgery cervical spinal fusion c4-5-6-7 , Feb 06 . I have a titanium plate and 8 bolts. I have had more pain and the same pain that I had before surgery. I went to an orthopedic surgeon for my surgery I suggest a neuro consult and neuro surgeon and specifically discuss which nerves he is planning on repairing as well as the structual support of the fusion. Be careful who you let operate. Especially the ones that are assisting the Great surgeon! I personally feel the assisting is who created my existing problem. I believe my bolts are to tight and are causing the spinal cord to being pinched in the same area that is now fused. They took bone marrow from my hip and put it in the area where they put the plate and bolts to help create a single bone in that area. My life is full of pain and I regret having the surgery. If you can live with it the way it is I suggest you put off surgery for as long as you can.sincerely,Debby
