Hi i'm new to this forum but i thought this might be a good idea to vent out here. Maybe i can get some advise. I'm 26 years old and my periods have always been irregular. When i'm on birth controll pills they do the trick and i soon become regular. I have tried 3 different types of birth controll pills and none have solved my problem. My doctor says it's probably my estregen level is too low. The last pills i took had a higher dose of estregen, i still heven't received my period. It's been 3 months now. I expressed my concerns with my Doc but she said it's nothing to worry about. I'm going to see gynacologist. I would hate to find out i won't be able to have children. 2 years from now my Fiance and i want to start a family.

Please get back to me about your thought's. Are there any other people who are going through the same situation?

Thanks for your time

Later

  • The pill can do a real number on your hormone levels and it can take months, even years to fix. Since your cycles have always been irregular it may take some time to resolve this. If you want to start a family I recommend stopping the birth control and allowing your body time to adjust. I recommend acupuncture and Chinese herbs to help you with this...if you can find a good acupuncturist who is also a trained herbalist this would be best. I have worked successfully with patients with infertility and menstruation problems. It really does work! To find an acupuncturist near you go to www.acufinder.com and type in your zip code.Hope this helps and good luck!Doctor of Oriental Medicine

  • It can take a while eg months for ones body to try to readjust itself after being on the pill so its probably just that why you havent had a period since at all. From what Ive read, being on the pill just creates a false cycle. I used to have irregular periods along bad PMT and some excess hair growth and it turned out that I have polycystic ovulation syndrome (PCOS). This is a common problem which causes irregular periods (something which can be diagnosed by hormonal blood test and ultrasound.). Homoeopathy treatment and vitamin and mineral supplementation has now gotten my periods regular (after having constantly irregular ones for over 15 yrs) and helped get rid of my PMS mood swings. There are many different problems of cause which could cause irregular periods so of cause it could be something completely different but I'll cut and paste some info on PCOS in case you have other symptoms too. "How many women have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)?An estimated five to 10 percent of women of childbearing age have PCOS.What are the symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)? These are some of the symptoms of PCOS: infrequent menstrual periods, no menstrual periods, and/or irregular bleedinginfertility or inability to get pregnant because of not ovulatingincreased growth of hair on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toesacne, oily skin, or dandruffpelvic painweight gain or obesity, usually carrying extra weight around the waisttype 2 diabeteshigh cholesterolhigh blood pressuremale-pattern baldness or thinning hairpatches of thickened and dark brown or black skin on the neck, arms, breasts, or thighsskin tags, or tiny excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck areasleep apnea―excessive snoring and breathing stops at times while asleep"the above info was from http://www.4woman.gov/faq/pcos.htm Irregular periods as long as one is ovulating.. just means you may have less chances a year than a normal person does to get pregnant. Pregnancy chances thou can be easily increased.. by monitoring ones cycle by something like the Sympto-Thermal Method (working out when one is ovulating by taking the cervical temperature and via cervical mucus observations) and having sex at the fertile time.

  • check your hormone levels regularly - prolactin especially. elevated prolatin levels (hyperprolactinemia) can screw up your menstrual cycles and cause infertility

  • i'm going through a very similar thing. i get a period about once every 6months and my doc has also said it's nothing to worry about, and i too worry about whether i can have kids in the future. i can't really offer any advice as such, but at least you know your not alone xXx

  • OK - how about being radical and trying a doc that uses natural health care ? That will deal with the problem and not just the symptoms ?I know that sounds crazy, but hey, if the other stuff ain't working, it may make sense.

  • I have the same problem as you and I am terrified. I think I got my period once on its own, and then was on the pill for years and years. I went off two months ago, and still have not gotten my period. I can't go to the doctor right now because I don't have health insurance (or the money-- it's expensive). But I want to have children in a few years. Right now I am just looking for a support group or some other people to talk to who are going through something similar. When my friends complain about their periods I think to myself, they don't know how lucky they are.

  • Hi,I have worried of the same problem. I'm a healthy 28 yo female. I have had Bacterial Vaginosis for the last 5 years. I have been with the same partner for over 5 years. BV is chronic appearing every 3-4 months and have taken Flagyl, clindymicin, cipro etc. I was wondering if taking all of these antibiotics for the past 5 years may have an affect on fertility? My Fiance and I are planning to have children in the next 1-2 years and I'm scared it's going to be hard because I have taken all of there antibiotics?? If anyone has or is going through similar situations, please to share. Thanks

Read the other post on Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis and do the PROBIOTIC/yogurt treatment - you need to insert this vaginally as well as take an oral dose of a good quality probiotic with several strains of beneficial flora. You are right, the antibiotics have ravaged your system making it easier to keep getting BV or candida. You are still young and should not have a problem if you can get your BV under control and stop using antibiotics. Please read that other post and try the probiotic treatment - it works wonders and has really helped me and many other women. Best wishesDOM

  • I know exactly what you are going through.I am 18 years old. I was diagnosed when I was 16..I have been with the same boy since 15, we plan on getting married soon.It scares me to death, the thought that I may not be able to have his children.I walk around, telling everyone I don't want kids, but, truth is, I would kill to have one.No one knows this, not even my fiance..And I have to watch all of these dumb girls get pregnant, at 15 and, doing drugs, and don't know who the father is.But I know, I'd me a good mom, and... I just can't .It kills me.I know this is long, but I've never really let out how I felt to anyone, ever..And just reading this, lets me know that there is someone out there who understands.I have tried for so long, and, I'm just getting so scared. When a woman can't bear kids, you feel like your broken.....

  • As I read these reply's I see that i may not be alone. I am 26 and have always had irregular periods. so i thought i'll go on birth control and that should regulate them. well i have switched birth control twice and then finally stopped taking it when the last set really threw me for a loop. I have now been off for about 4-5 months and have not had a period at all. at first i thought i may be pregnant but after several tests, all negative, i gave up on that thought. I am starting to get worried that i may not get to have kids at all. my wonderful boyfriend is turning 30 this year and as he gets older he gets more worried that he will never have kids either. I am scared that i will loose him if i tell him i can't have kids if that becomes the case. I have always wanted kids anyone have any good advice for me.

Please try acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine to help you get your periods back on track. This form of medicine is very successful for infertility problems and there have been lots of recent studies on its benefits. To find a practitioner in your area please visit www.acufinder.com. Look for one who has experience in women's health. Of course, you should still be checked out by your obgyn but IME birth control pills can really mess up your system. Do you have any gas or bloating? Any lower abdominal pain? Are you over or under weight? Best wishesDOM

  • Hi. Your info was very helpful, and i think I may have this. Can I still get pregnant if I do have this? Yes you can, but if you are overweight you must lose some. There is alot of info on PCOS on the internet. Also you might need to be put on medication to get you started. You should talk to a specialist. Kiera

It's a moot point now. I had to have a hysterectomy due to massive fibroids and uterine prolapse when I turned 40. I was going to send you a PM but have not figured out if I can. I wanted to ask if you guys deal with addictions and what your success rate is. Thanks!

Can this will affect on my genital function? :eek:If you are taking oral contraceptives then you shouldn't be having problems with cycle. It should regulate your cycle on a monthly basis. If you are having problem you should check your self with your doctor. I was reading about how they are treating pregnant women in prison. This is just unbelievable. It really is sad to hear things like this...
