  • Same thing happened to me....happend after a dental cleaning...I think she dug too deep and bacteria got into the gum. I was first told that I had strep throat but two weeks later when I couldn't swallow and had severe jaw pain and could not open my mouth I was referred back to my dentist. I just started on Rovamycine and I hope this gets rid of the swelling and pain!!

  • this is definitely nothing to worry about. lymphnodes get swollen almost always due to infection. where ever the infection is the closest lymphnode will get swollen, for instance if you have an infection on the lower part of your arm or your hand, your inside elbow lymphnode will get swollen. you dont have anything to worry about. when the doctors give you antibiotics, then thats all you need. if you get a fever with the lymphnode, it usually states that you have an infection as well, just go to the doctors, they know what theyre talking about it sounds like to me. i am studying to be a doctor, i know.

  • I don't think you have anything to worry about. I have a huge lump on the back of my neck that has been there for about 3 years and I was also worried about it. I had a catscan and sonogram and they say it is nothing to worry about. I forgot the exact term for what it is but mostly, it's just fat tissue. I didn't even have a tooth problem or anything, it just was there one day. Get the test done just to be sure but I also read up on it and it is pretty common.

  • My 3 year old was complaining about his neck hurting this past week, and he had huge swollen neck nodes. His throat and mouth were clear. I was worried, and I took him to the doctor. She was very concerned about leukemia and hodgkins. We had blood work and x-rays. The main thing to look for is swollen nodes in the chest area just under the bone and under the armpits. Those are linked to the cancers you are concerned with. Fever is a good sign; although it could go either way. Neck nodes usually are due to some bacteria or viral infection. A CBC could tell you either way. I am pretty sure you are just fine. My little boy got a clean bill of health. The antibiotics are shrinking the nodes. Not all the way yet. If the antibiotics are working on you at all, that is a sign it is not cancer. Antibiotics would have no effect otherwise.

  • Same type issue ... May be able to relate:I too have a little one with swollen lymph nodes on the side or her neck. I noticed them about 6 months ago and ended up taking her to the doc. They did a chest x-ray and also tested her for mono? Well ends up she test positive for mono. Funny thing is she never had one symptom of mono? I will say that the lymph nodes have shrunk but I am still concerned. I have had several people say that mono in a 3 year old is uncommon. Also recently she has come down with the cough and also a pretty high temp only occurring at night. Just been reading online about lymphoma and I think I am really scaring myself. Do any of you know what the changes are it could be a misdiagnosis?HELP :-(

  • My husband has been sick for over 50 days. His neck lymph nodes are swollen.Every now and then he has a hard time to breathe. I have taken him to 3 different ER's and no one can tell him why they are swollen and painful. He's lost 20 LBS. in one month. He suffers from insomnia and is very weak. Hehonestly feels like he's on his last string and won't be able to make it much longer. He was first diagnosed with broncitis, then sinusitis then kidney stones. My husband is in shambles and no one is willing to help him. I know it's not over insurance, he is double insured!! Whatever happened to the "OATH" doctors take? His lymph nodes are swollen on his neck, under his armpits and even swollen at his groin area. His CBC is good and his lungs are clear they say.I am desperate for help at saving my husband. He is my life!overeasy4@juno.com

  • Do take him to an oncologist. They are the best to rule out any malignancy.ESR in blood tests can give you some clues.

  • My 2 year has had " swollen lymphnodes" sice he was 6 months old, I have took him to the doctor several times because they are not going away. But there are no other symptoms, no fever, cough, weight loss, nothing. Has anyone has this problem with their child? I am a very worried Mom and all of this stuff that I have been reading about cancer is making things worse.

  • Can they detect cancer in blood tests, it almost sounded by one post that they cannot - the one with the teenage girl diagnosed with hodgkins. I have been sick for a long long time. Finally they found a tumor on one of my ovaries, they did not quite call it cancerous, just thick walled and had multiple chambers which was bad - enough to give me a complete hyst. That was almost 2 years ago and I still am wiped and sick all the time. I just have no energy, I have bone pain, abdominal pain, lung/chest pain, ear pain. My glands in my neck are almost the size of golf balls literally on both sides and I get sores in my mouth - and the gland under my right arm pit has been swollen for that long as well. I have seen many many drs. and they have done xrays and blood tests and they never seem concerned about the glands in my neck or anything. They just say well, lets run some blood tests, blood tests come back ok - my wbc count is always just above being low and they tell me that they cannot see anything wrong. I get burned out on trying to find a dr. that will want to find out what is wrong with me. They all look at me like I am nuts - but my glands should definately not be that big in my opinion, It is obvious they are swollen. I do get night sweats alot. I have told this to even the latest dr. I finally went to see just last week - I filled out the paper with everything that I felt, he took my blood pressure, never even felt my glands or anything - he commented - saying, I see you have alot of things going on with you, lets get some blood work, and ekg and an xray (because I had a past anerobic pneumonia last year) - the blood work and xray came back ok - except the wbc was just a .1 from being low and he said that he could not honestly see what it could be that was making me feel the way I do and that he did not see anything that he could help me with. I saw somewhere in a post - telling someone to see an oncologist - but where I live you have to have a referral and they will not refer you if they don't think you are sick. Ugh.

  • My 3 year old had severly swollen lymph nodes in his neck. His Dr. did a CBC and it was found that he had mono. Before finding out, he did not have any of the classic symptoms. I was in a complete panic until we realized what it was. After about 6 weeks, they are finally back to normal. I would recommend that anyone with swollen lymph nodes get a blood test done to rule out mono.

  • I also have a 2 year old with swollen neck lymph nodes since about age 6 months. They are getting bigger now, one is about the size of a walnut. He has no fever, weight loss, or other signs of illness except for the run of the mill cough and cold occasionally. The pediatrician brushed me off. I am a nurse and am wondering if I should be more persistant about a biopsy?
