I have pain on the outside of my lower left leg. The pain has become more severe in the past weeks. I have asked a few doctors what its, and I was prescribed muscle relaxers, which didn't help at all. I don't believe it is a blood clot, considering it is on the outside of the leg. Any ideas?

  • I get a leg pain quite frequently (getting more and more regular) sometimes when in bed sometimes when just sitting: It is just below the knee and feels almost like a cramp, but its not cramp, the only thing that sometimes clears it is walking round or laying front down with offending leg bent out at side resting elevated on a cushion (***l of a lot easier to do than to describe lol)Have no idea what it is but do have back probs as well so maybe related.

  • Check out meralgia paresthetica on the web. I was diagnosed with this syndrom yesterday. It stems from a pressure on a nerve in the groin area, and this causes the burning, numb pain on the outer thigh. It started for me as a small numb feeling on the right side and then became painful at times. When it started on the left thigh I saw a Dr. because I thought it had to be nerve related for the exact same spot on the opposite leg to begin hurting. I am having an ultra-sound to check for any "masses" that could be applying pressure, besides my stomach.... yes belly fat is one of the causes, so it's diet time for me.

I just did and this is what defined my problem. I have had the condition for a couple of years and MDs couldn't figure it out. A specialist did.It was affecting my job. I had problems walking at times as well, felt like weakness in my legs. pain in the knee, groin area. It would come and go. Sitting sometime did the same thing to me . Kneeling to work would require that I pull myself up , I couldn't just stand up, no leg strength.

  • Hey Guys,I have had similar pains in my upper left quad. Pins and needles after sitting, aggrevated by drinking, comes and goes pretty randomly though. Well I am pretty sure it is just nerves healing. About a year and a half ago, I was coaching hockey (18 to 20 yr olds) and took a slap shot in the left quad. It hurt and bruised as expected, and then healed without incident. About a year after that the pins and needles started and after a few weeks of it, i was told that it was probably neural. It donned on me that it could have been nerve damage from the slap shot so many months ago. The good news is that after a few months the tingles have disappeared and things seem normal again. So try and think back to if you had a major impact to the leg over the past few years, see if you can corroborate this.

  • I have the same problem it seems and have had since I gained weight a couple of years ago... when I lay down flat on my back it is the worst, but it hurts off and on throughout the day. Some days worse than others. Sometimes its like a numbness, while other times its a burning sensation. Its only on my left leg, on the outside part, between my hip to just above my knee. I am just hoping that if I lose that 40 lbs back that I may be OK, but thinking there may be more to this. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Shortly after I had a c-section delivery I started getting pain in my right leg. It mainly stays from my hip to my knee with the most severe in the thigh area. At first it would just come if something brushed against it, like pulling up my pants or walking past something close. Then if I turned to fast or wrong it would send the pain all the way to me toes. This has been going on now for almost 2 continuous years and for the past 3 months it has gotten worse. If I sit for any amount of time, stand, or lie down I get the pain but more severe to the point of bringing tears to my eyes. Its unbearable. No one can seem to give me a diagnosis. I'm starting to believe that they think its in my head. I started searching online and come across a number of things that have the same symptoms, such as, deep vein thrombosis. If anyone has similar symptoms or knows what it may be please respond.

  • I am currently having the problem. It started about a week ago, after I had returned from cleaning out the cottage on OBX.I was sleeping on the couch, on the side that it happened, and woke up to a centralized burning on my left thigh right in the middle on the left side. After that, my quad from that point and below has gone numb. It sometimes goes as far down as just below my knee. It isn't bad, however, it just tingles and doesn't feel like I'm going to keel over any second. The second time it happened, I had the burning, and then it felt almost like a muscle in my groin was like a guitar string being plucked. It felt really weird, but didn't correct the problem.I am glad they have this forum, because the other other sites either said something about spinal stenosis or something about AIDS... which was kind of freaking me out a bit. I didnt not know about the condition you are talking about thanks....

  • I also seem to have the same pain that you are having. I am a 18 female and I've suffered from this for as long as I can remember. I do seem to have a very slight case of restless legs which I don't normally have problems with. However lately it has gotten a lot worse, from 1-2x per month to 3-4x per week. I went to a specialist and had a lot of blood tests and x-rays done and was unable to come up with anything. It also seems to get much worse when the weather changes, from warm to cold or if a really bad storm is coming. I have pain in both legs from the knee down to my ankle and it feels like a painful numbing pressure in my muscles and bones. If anyone has any ideas about this I would appreciate any help you can give me.
