I get extreme feeling of vertigo (sensation of falling) whenever I hike up steep inclines or up narrow trails with precipitous edges, eg. the Grand Canyon. However, when returning, I dont receive any of these sensations and can negotate the downslopes with no difficulty. Any ideas as to the physiological cause and treatments/solutions?
