  • I've had the same problem for almost a year. What I could describe as blood spots that appear randomly (sometimes looks like a blood blister) on the inside of my cheeks, behind my upper and lower lips, and up near the salivary glands. The spot will appear anywhere between a few hours to a few days and then disappear. They are penhead sized, and never hurt. What is it, and what causes it?

  • if ur spots are in the back of your throat, i had the same thing. the doctor called it "cobblestone throat" and she said that it was caused by a post-nasal drip, nothing serious.

  • I noticed that once! It must have happened to me over a year ago, they didn't hurt and they went away without a problem.

  • I have them too. I just noticed i had these red spots in the back of my throat yesterday...Never had them before. My gums and mouth look healthy. Nothing else is wrong. The spots are not sore. My throat is not sore. I dont have a cold or anything like that. They seem kinda like bursted blood vessels like the previous poster said. I am a little freaked. Makes me wonder if there are more than usual cases of this popping up.

  • I have them right now. They are actually at the roof of my mouth towards the back of my throat. They don't hurt either. All I can say is that I have a cough and a lot of post nasal drip. I really hope it is nothing serious. I am going to go to the doctor.

  • For the past two year I have been trying to get a diagnosis without any luck, I have burning in my lips, the inside of my lips have small red dots that burn, my lips get very dry to the point where they cut and bleed. I been to many doctors and none of them looks inside my lips all they said is that I should use vaseline on my lips. I just don't know what to do anymore, I wish I could find a doctor who would understand and believe my complains, I am just so tire of going from doctor to doctor. if any of you have any idea please share your toughts.

The burning sounds like herpes1; you can ask for a blood test for it to confirm it, otherwise, it might be a vitamin deficiency. The rest of you, if you've had oral sex, you need to consider a STD in your throats, or it's just post nasal drip. It could be some type of non-sexual virus, too.

  • ok so i have these too...and being pregnant i went to the doctor to see if it was strep(strep can cause problems with baby) cuz i have been sick for a couple days, congestion, nasal drip...etc. well she said it was either one of 2 things....something viral due to the cold or that my blood platelets were low so she did blood work and what not and my blood was fine..so it is just something viral that your body needs to work out on its own but not strep....as for the others that have pain i would get tested for other issues...these are painless and are just there to annoy the person that has them and make them wonder. i hope this helps out a little bit.

I was thinking that they might be bursted blood vessels from the pressure. but I am not sure.

  • Don't bother with doctors. You should go to the dentist to get it checked out. If he/she suspects something is up, then tests will be done. I used to work in as a dental assistant, so I've seen all sorts of strange spots, bumps and discolorations (amongst other things). Usually it is nothing to be worried about, but only the dentist can tell you for sure.

  • I currently have a cobblestone throat. I just found out that term minutes ago LOL. I've read that it's nothing to be worried about, but I am freaked out because I've had these little bumps on the wall of my throat ever since I had tonsillitis last March. I've been sneezing for a couple of days last week and I had a terrible runny nose. Right now, I don't sneeze anymore, I don't have a cold either but my nasopharynx is irritating. I read that it's caused by nasal dripping or whatever you call it...But how can I make them go away? I don't like seeing them in my throat everytime I check my throat with my penlight.

  • You should see a specialist called an ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) Doctor also known as an Otolaryngologist for a diagnosis rather than a General Practitioner. An ENT will be better equipped to diagnose the problem.

  • This sounds like an allergy to me. I recomend taking butterbur, quercentin, and carotenoids. This should help the spots go away.
