My husband is constantly clearing his throat or coughing. He isn't coughing anyhting up. I'm not sure if it's just habit or if it's a medical complaint but he won't see a doctor. It's driving me mad as it has been going on for around five years! I would be very grateful if anybody has any ideas.

  • Coughing can be a side effect of meds. Lisinopril (for high bp) has been noted for that. If he is on any meds, do a search or check with pharmacist for side effects.

  • Could also be a sign of some anxiety issue if your husband suffers from that.

  • I have had the same problem for about 6/7 years and have recently been quite ill. I took a course of antibiotics and my throat problem worsened along with a few other new symptoms. I checked out my symptoms online, done the saliva test and everything pointed to candida. I seen a couple of doctors and specialists who said I was a mystery and when I asked about candida they said it was a grey area for them and refused to discuss it. I have since then started on an anti-candida diet along with some natural anti-fungal meds and probiotics. Most symptoms are gone including the throat clearing. Hope this helps.

My husband does the same thing. It's been going on for 4 years. Even does it while he eats. Goes on all night, too. It's to the point where I have a hard time being around him. His doctor's diagnosis was aging and possibly a habit.

  • Doctors don't always know the answer. It could simply be a dry, irritated throat. If he could chew gun or suck on some hard candy, that may be the solution.BeBe
