I have been told numerous times by numerous people over the last 6-7 years I smell like dirty socks, yes, people are blunt. I am the most clean person around, meaning my body house bedding etc.
I can smell it every now and again, mostly when I'm stressed and my body temp. is above normal. My ear wax even carries the same odor. My feet have no odor whatsoever, they don't even sweat.
I have been to doctors, specialists, homopathic, and have been tested for everything just about, all bloodwork comes back normal, except for my potassium once or twice. I do have low blood sugar when I'm not eating a healthy diet.
I have been tested for TMAU, everything was normal. The only major thing I have is severe allergies.
I keep trying to be tested for Isovaleric Acidemia, but no one will do it because supposedly only children show signs of that.
I am at my wits end and really can not go forward in my professional career until this is dealt with. I would appreciate any of your suggestions, I don't want to be like this forever and 6-7 years is way too long.

This can cause a "dirty sock" type odor. This is something that can easily happen if there's too much sugar in your body (worth checking with your doctor, since this can indicate diabetes), or if your skin has folds that don't get air. I'd try clothing that's breathable, and there are many safe natural ways to clean the yeast from your skin. For yeast IN your skin that persists, i'd see a doctor. Also, if you wear a bra, be sure it fits well, to allow air to circulate under the breast area. If you perspire and your clothes feel damp, wash and change into dry clothes immediately. When at home or alone, consider letting your skin have exposure to air. This will help combat a fungal problem. This will only work if yeast or another fungus is the problem, and again, I don't know. But I hope this helps. Take care!

  • Supplement with Magnesium & Zinc, preferably in a liquid form (Floradix is a good brand - Contains Calcium and Vitamin D as well). Diet is obviously a factor, so eat relatively healthy (Fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains (Oatmeal, Oat bran)). Work on digestion by properly combining foods for the most part (Don't hafta go crazy with it). If you want, probiotics would also be an additional boost. You will notice a major difference, if not total disappearance within 3-5 days.

  • I have had the same thing for years, but I got rid of it. It is some sort of allergy to Gluton. I stopped eating all gluton, wheat and yeast and I no longer smell like dirty socks/feet. It only took a couple weeks, but you MUST stick to this diet.If you don't get rid of this odor and such, you may end up with an autoimmune disease. I have Multiple Sclerosis very bad, and the odor got worse as my new found MS got worse.

  • Thanks to all who replied, I will take all into consideration. Can you suggest a gluten free diet to follow Jimbalaya? Did you actually have people tell you that you smelled like dirty socks or was this just something you could smell?

For the past 6 or 7 years I myself have suffered with this smell that others can detect but I cannot smell it. People tell me I smell and will move away from me. I want to cry b/c I dont understand. I have been on Magnesium, zinc and taking vitamin B complex. I have stopped drinking beer eating yogurt as much as well as any other vege or food that has a strong smell. I hate it b/c I am embarrassed to get close to people and stay away from people only its difficult, as I work in a social profession. I have also tried probiotics that did not work, got tested at my docs for everything and no one has an answer to this...I am completely frustrated and believe this is ruining me socially, I cant use per-fumy soap or perfume b/c it creates this odd smell off of me, I hate this and will help you if you help me solve this mystery! I would love to chat with you as it helps to talk to someone who understands my email is hayleymgleason@yahoo..please contact me if you would like Thanks!!

  • I have a suggestion that may sound odd, however, my father suffered from this dirty sock sweat problem for many years. 2 baths a week for a couple months with half a gallon of white vineger in the water for about a half hour soak did the trick. A dab of it under the arms after getting out of the tub, yes you will smell like vinegar for an hour or two but that goes away after a bit. It is good for your skin and can heal infections. Try it for a few weeks and all those clothes you have been wearing add vinegar to the wash and let it soak for a bit. It is a very natural deodorizer. My father has never smelled since nor has he had any reoccurance

  • If you have body odor that you cannot get rid of, I have one thing to say: Lavilin!!It's amazing. I don't know how it works, but it does and I love it! Would never think of switching!

  • Actually, if you are healthy your sweat shouldn't smell: "BO" is produced by bacteria that flourish in the damp, dark places on our bods.so the cure for BO is frequent showers with an anti-bacterial soap like Dial.
