It doesn't happen all the time but it might happen once or twice a day and only happen when eating or drinking. Suddenly, I start violently coughing and can't talk. It feels like my throat completely closes up. It feels like I'm choking but it happens when drinking too. I don't eat or drink too fast.

I don't know if it's connected to my asthma or not.

  • You need to see a GI specialist ASAP! I'm already seeing one for possible inflammatory bowel disease. I didn't think to mention it. I will make another appt. What do you think it could be? I know you can't diagnose me online or anything, just curious. Thanks!

  • Anyone else please? You need a fluoroscopic barium swallow to see if there is an area of the esophagus that spasms. Try eating small bites of food and drinking small amounts of liquid. You probably need an upper panendoscopy to see if there are any lesions in the esophagus. See a GI specialist right away.
