Itchy feet, legs, hands, arms...

I have been experiencing itchy feet, legs, hands, arms, and sometimes other body parts for over a year now. Not sure what is going on, but if I take Zyrtec or Clariten or some kind of allergy pill, it helps. I have scratched in some places until I bleed, and now have scars. My doctor will not do tests for fungus or bacteria. I did get a small rash on the back of one of my legs right when this started, and we thought it was a case of Chiggers, and we were staying with my grandmother-in law for a few days. I had never had them before and assumed she knew what she was talking about. We covered it with clear nail polish, and they went away. I should also mention that right before this, I developed IBS, possibly Irritated Bowel Syndrome, and maybe even Celiac Disease. I have no insurance now and cannot continue with the blood testing with the doctor, we left it there for now. I do know that I can no longer take Benedryl, it makes me shake and feel delerious among other things, my husband thought I was having a sezuire once! I really need to know if anyone else has experienced this insane itchy issue, since I cannot sleep sometimes because of it. I know it isn't a food allergy. It cant be laundry detergent, soap, or anything that I am using, we have ruled that all out. I feel like Im going insane because of all this! Someone help please?

Someone help please?I have horrible pins and needles, but only in my arms, it fluctuates, it feels like pure torture, it wakes me up I can't sleep, I jump from the painful *****s. It drives me crazy and wears me down. I scald it with boiling water and then rub ice on it until its numb, but that is only temporary. Someone told me try vinegar and also cayan pepper sauce.

  • Im about to go to walgreens and ask the pharmacist for something, because for example, it just started about an hour ago...and its really bad now. I dont see any bumps or dont ever get a rash...so I dont think its scabies. I'll let you know what they say. I'm also going to try benedryl. I just found some cortizone 10 in my bathroom, which I'll try for now

  • You may be having an allergic reaction to something your skin came into contact with or soemthing you are eating regularly. Think of all the things your skin comes into contact with: your bedsheets and blankets, your clothing, your detergent, fabric softener, lotion, soap, shampoo. have you changed anythign or tried anything new lately. Keep taking the zyrtec every night before bed to avoid drowsiness. Also look at the foods you eat..have you triend anythign new lately. Try an elimination diet for gluetn products, lactose products, anything with nuts, or shellfish, and you may find an answer.

  • As I think I said, I havent tried anything new. No new food or drink, or anything. It has been going on for over a year, and I have been doing the Zyrtec or Claritin (whichever I have coupons for), as I cannot take Benedryl anymore, it causes an allergic reaction with me now. I know I'm not allergic to anything, and my doc said without a blood test we cant do anything else, and I dont have ins anymore. I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with this and knows what I'm talking about. It seems to be a long term problem. As a matter of fact, I'm itching so bad right now, I am bright red from scratching!

  • Do you take anything with a coating of red dye eg coated aspirin? My husband suffers too! Do you have high cholestral ? We both take medicine for it and both have the itchiness. I never had it before I started taking Zocor.

  • Just so you know, you are not alone. I have been dealing with it as well for over a year now. My doctor told me that it was simply because my body was releasing histamine, but she did not know why. I have also been taking Zyrtec and it seems to help most of the time. When it doesn't help or has not had the chance to kick in yet, I put bags of ice on the places that itch until I can't feel it anymore. I understand what you are going through. I have missed work because I can't stop itching or the itching kept me up all night and I am so tired in the morning. I wish I had answers too.

Someone help please? i went through exactly what you were saying about the itching. i went through a thorough scratching of my whole body on a nightly basis. and if anyone even touched my skin, a heat started to spread outwardly because my body started producing histamine as tho i were allergic to myself. i went to see a homeopath who got me started drinking apple cider vinegar in water(1Tbsp to 20 0z)throughout the day and put on specific remedies for my constitution.it was truly the best gift i gave myself...homeopaths rock!!

  • I did read the info that someone posted... That can't be it, there are no lesions or bumps. It's just crazy random itching all over my body. The only time there are 'marks' is when I have been scratching so long, I break the skin. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having these problems!

Someone help please? My wife was going through the same thing for about two years. It ended up being that she was low on Iron. She started taking a supplement of Iron and has been better since. Might want to try it. The doctors here could not figure it out, but a local ENT did.

  • For the last couple of months or so, I've had this horrible itching all over my hands (It's really irritating to try and scratch your own fingers.), wrists, feet, and legs. And regardless if I scratch or not, my fingers and palms will swell up until I can barely bend them. But I've got no idea what it is and I don't have insurance anymore, so I can't see a doctor.

I've had something like this for less than a week now. I've done a search on Google for moving itchy hives, and came up with the word Dermographia, which describes all my symptoms. I think mine was brought on by extreme stress. You could do a search and read up more about it. I'm taking Benedryl, but it knocks me out and I sleep all day, got to find another solution.

I also suffer from similar IBS symptoms (diarrhoea etc) and have been diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis - I knew the itching was an allergy of some kind but had eliminated nearly everything from my diet and environment and was at wits end... UNTIL I went gluten free. I also scratched till I bled (try confusing the nerve endings with heat or cool packs, seems to work temporarily) HOWEVER if the mast cells have broken in your skin (which can happen even from gentle contact with allergy) the histamine is already there and causing swelling and further irritation. You need to remove the allergen *not* treat the allergy. Seriously, go gluten free for a month and then try a gluten rich day (yeast donuts, pizza dough and soft whitebread are really high sources). Guarantee you'll get symptoms. I didn't put two and two together until I had been gluten free for a month, then accidentally ate something with a high gluten content. Hives, itchy feet and hands, dermographia - the works. Also if you can afford it, check your liver function because its common to get itchy hands and feet from bad liver function. If you can't afford it (yeah it sucks) try not to tax your liver too much as insurance. Alcohol can trigger histamine response, so can codeine (so lay off the Benedryl). I find Zyrtec or some similar antihistamines effective but you don't really wanna make your liver work harder from extra drugs in the system. Hope this helps, doctors (esp. specialists) seem to have tunnel vision when they treat you - they forget you are a SYSTEM of organs and chemical responses. Quite literally the guy may be too busy with his head up your behind to actually see the real problem passing your lips at lunch.

  • I am in the same position. I do not have insurance and can not afford to see a doctor. A few days ago i woke in the middle of the night and the bottoms of my feet, and ankles were itching so badly. My hands itch, and my wrists itch as well. I have noticed the itching is more where I can see my veins clearly. I have been racking my brain because I do not know what is going on. The itching is driving my crazy and at no part in the day am i free from feeling the need to scratch my my wrists, hands, or feet. I do not have a rash, or any bumps. Other than the itching I feel fine, well a little tired from not sleeping. I too have nothing new to my routine. I use the same soaps, eat the same foods. What is wrong with me?

  • I am having the exact same symptoms, plus mild night sweats. I took a course of azithromycin (antibiotic) that seemed to help, but symptoms reappeared after a few days. In case of antibiotic reresistanxe, I'm now on both amoxicillin and cipro at the same time. It's two days in and no symptom relief yet, and I'm getting worried I'm just stuck with this...
