:( Please can you help? I first noticed this last October, i started to get aching limbs, especially my arms, to the point where it aches so much to hold them up or use them This would last for a few days and then go but would return within a a couple of weeks, alongside i would feel very tiered and energyless.
I visited the doctor who could not work out what it was, however i have not had this for a few months now and it has suddenly returned!
Does anyone know waht this could be? I do have Polocystic Ovaries and Endometreosis and wondered if there is any link?

  • Hi, I began having the same problem approx 3 1/2 yrs ago. Started with a feeling of heavy, aching arms, had a hard time washing my hair and brushing my teeth, taking clothes out of the washer, etc. etc. It would last approx. 2-3 wks and go away very gradually, and then return the same way again. Then I noticed dragging my feet...the heaviness was a feeling of severe fatigue. Went to the doctor had several tests over several months, MRI's, blood wrk, spinal tap. Dr's found one white matter lesion on the right side of brain. Spinal tap was normal. Now after my second spinal tap in Nov. 2005, it showed bands in my spinal fluid and serum. I'm told if I have bands in the spinal fluid and not the serum...it's MS. But I have bands in both!!!! Still no definite diag. and still going to my Neuro in Houston. (after several other specialists to rule out everything else.) Don't mean to keep on about my probs but that 1st symptom of heavy aching arms was soooo distinct, I had to reply. I hope the best for you.

  • I had this 40 years ago, ended up with Psoris arthritis, (dry itching palms), all caused by stress. It has not reacurred until now. As I am also clenching my teeth, must be a mountain of stress again. My take: beware of too much stress/worry.

  • These responses are SO helpful. Same symptoms for me. Aching arms and hands. Extreme tiredness. Couldn't cook supper one night. Changing the duvets is the worst. Stress fits the pattern exactly as I'm going through a bad time. Now I know what it might be I feel a lot better. Thank you all.

  • I have had these same symptoms for a few months now and I came across many other people with the same symptoms. Many people with these same symptoms said it was anxiety. Sure enough when I went to the doctors my doctor prescribed me anxiety pills and anti deppresants. They help!

  • Thank you for posting....all of your responses have helped me tremendously. My arms have been heavy and aching for over a week now, which has been a little scary. We had a traumatic event with one of my children a few weeks ago, and soon after that my upper teeth started hurting, and the dentist told me that I was clenching and was doing nerve damage, at night. I got a mouthguard and that was that. A few days later, my arms started aching and felt weak. I had no idea that stress could do that to you. I have some anti-anxiety medication from a couple of years ago, and will use that and see if it helps. Thanks, again! You have replaced fear with hope.

  • I have also been experiencing the same problems for months now. Like the rest it comes and goes. I am diabetic and thought that it was related somehow, because I also have achy legs and restless legs. Lately the headaches and achy arms have been getting worse. It was just in my right arm, now it is in both and the headaches last forever and I get these shooting pains in my head that feel like stabbing and they come and go. I feel like I am nuts sometimes as no one has an answer.

  • Check your blood sugar levels - does Diabeties run in your family? This may be a cause. My mum had aching arms for months and always felt extremly tired. After lots of tests (which obvisouly showed nothing) they then took a little samle of blood and tested her sugar level to find she was in range 30! Your levels are supposed to be between 4 and 7.

  • Please get tested for lupus. Friend just got diagnoses and had same. Heavy arms, tired....I agree with the lupus check suggestion. This happened to me nearly 20 years ago. I thought I was sore from exercising with free weights. When I got to the point where I could no longer touch the top of my head, I went to the doctor. Diagnosis: Lupus SLE. God bless you.

  • Jan, your symptoms sound similar to my mums, none of the docters knew what was wrong with her for years, then it turns out shes Coeliac, allergic to gluten in wheat, oats and barley....maybe check that out because nutritional problems are often missed in medicine.I have aching arms and lack energy could it be anything to do with blood sugars?
