tongue/roof of mouth feel cold

for the past week part of my tongue and part of the roof of my mouth have constantly felt cold, at times like a cold burning sensation and it really bothers me :( there's no pain or change in color in the area and it's not my entire tongue or roof of my mouth, it's just sort of in the middle. If it makes any difference, my tongue has been pierced for about 14months, but taking my tongue ring out makes no difference. I've never had this happen before...can anyone help me?

  • I've had the same sensation sporadically for the last month or so, with it becoming pretty constant the last week or so. It started with the roof of my mouth but now it feels like my gums above my front teeth feel cold too. Very bizarre. I've done searches online for anything that could cause this and come up empty handed. I guess I'll be calling my doctor Monday about it, but I can only imagine how nuts I'll sound telling her my roof of my mouth feels cold! :) Have you found anything out about what caused yours, and has it resolved itself since you posted? Hopefully you still check these forums so I can find out!

  • Are you sure its not caused by a menthol taste? If so it could be from Acid Reflux.

  • I don't know if that could be it. This doesn't feel like a menthol taste. The closest thing I can explain it as would be if you sucked on a bunch of peppermint candies or ate them. My cold sensation has spread to my esophagus and stomach now, which is highly irritating. I used to have problems with reflux, but am on Prilosec and have been for over a year now. I was told to stay on it indefinitely since I had 6 ulcers that they found during an endoscopy in Oct. '06. I've done extensive searches online and found absolutely NOTHING else regarding this symptom other than this thread on this site. I'd love to share information with the other posters experiencing this to see if we all have any conditions and/or medications/supplements in common.

  • For the past 2 weeks or so, I've had this cold feel in my tongue and roof of my mouth. I do have acid reflux. My gallbladder was removed December 16th, 2008. Maybe it's a symptom of that. It's really weird. I've also been transporting fresh herbs, such as rosemary, sage, thyme, in my car lately. Maybe that has something to do with it. Anyway, I'm really aggravated. Oh, by the way, is anybody getting bad headaches?

  • Well maybe we all have the reflux thing in common. Although, mine should be under control since I've been taking the Prilosec for so long. Maybe it's quit working, or maybe we're all taking the same med for it?

  • I have been having the same symptoms. Roof of mouth cold as well as eyelids and nose. How is everyone feeling. Has this cleared up, has anyone got any answers from the doctor?I too had heartburn several weeks ago and was given prilosec which didnt agree with me. I have been off this for 2 weeks and have changed my diet so im not eating anything to provoke the heartburn. I dont feel like i have heartburn but maybe this is one of the signs that it is starting again?Thank you,

  • My mouth/tongue/throat/cheek has been ice cold/soar/tingling for a year. My mouth has also been watering alot lately. I also have myocronic jerks the same time the mouth problems started (posted my notes/questions Feb 11). Anyone else with those symptoms? I haven't found any answers on-line. (I've never had heartburn.)

  • I also have a cold sensation in my mouth for the first time today (tongue, roof, inside of lips). I recently got a stuffy nose and have been taking decongestants steady for 3 days. I've also noticed that I now have bright white spots on my front teeth, so I wonder if it has something to do with saliva / nutrients. I have been taking other medications as well (Yaz for 1.5 months and had taken 3 weeks of 800 mg Ibuprofen back in January). Just thought I'd contribute in case someone found a connection...

  • :(I am also suffering with extreme cold sensation of my mouth. it is mainly my lips and tongue and gums. It is not always in the same place sometimes it is centre of my lips, upper gum and tip of tongue or it maybe in the centre of my tongue. it feels as though I am standing in a freezing cold draught in the centre of my face. It also affects my cheek on the left side and my eyes feel cold. I have been to my doctor and she has referred me to a neurologist I have also been to my dentist he seems to think it may be burning mouth syndrome but its cold!!!!!!!! I am 51 years old female who also suffers with acid reflux and I am waiting to have my gall bladder out. I have had this condition since beginning of january 09. i will keep you all informed of any diagnosis or cure. That is if I dont go insane before then because its so annoying.

  • I have high cortisol and may be diagnoised with Cushing's Disease. The Endoc. Dr. does not find these mouth symptoms as real typical with this disease though - but maybe.

  • I have experienced the same cool feeling for the last week, seems like mouth, tongue and back of throat are cool feeling, as if I ate a whole bag of peppermints. Can't figure out what this is... I had a situation last year where dr. thought I might have acid reflux but never experienced it, so I can't really say I have acid reflux, I don't take anything for it but just a week ago, this feeling came up? Any ideas where to find answers?Feeling cool in West Palm Beach...

  • thought i'd update...still no change with me, it happens on and off, sometimes worse than the others but never goes away completely. i can't pinpoint anything specific that might set it off, it just happens. i haven't been to a doctor yet because i don't have insurance and i've been in a really bad financial situation for the last year and seem to just keep getting worse :/i do have stomach problems (gastritis) but i'm not under any medication (very rarely flares up, and has gotten a lot better after i went vegetarian)

  • I have had a cold mouth on and off for the last year or so. It just happens and last for weeks then it goes away for a few months before returning again. I don't have reflux and don't take any medication. I do have a sneezing problem which no one can tell me the reason for. Every time I wake up (wheather a nap or over night sleep) I sneeze a least 6 times sometimes I sneeze all day. I thought that it might have something to do with this cold mouth, which affects my taste of food as well. If anyone has the answer please let me know.

  • I too have this problem, it comes for a few months, gone for a few months, comes back. There is also a thread on here called "menthol/minty mouth" you can check out. I am healthy, no heartburn, no gallbladder concerns, not overweight, don't smoke, I only take birth control. I'm wondering if everyone who has posted this problem is female? Please let me know if this has only been affecting females! Thank you!

  • I've had this problem for some 6 months now.It started in the middle of tongue - I felt like I've burnt it or have had too much acidic food. Then the cold minty feeling started to surround the edge of the tongue, sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right, and sometimes every where. I can now feel it on the gums too. I've seen both the dental surgeon and the ENT specialist. I did a blood test and they found my iron level very low, and hence I went on iron supplements for 3 months. I don't have acid reflux etc. I don't drink, and I don't smoke. I am female in my early 40s.I have not seen improvement, but remain thankful that I can still taste my food. I pray that everyone on this forum will get well. If anyone should have anymore information, do feel free to share it with us. Take care.
