Help, I think my body smells like acidic fecal matter!

I am very worried that I smell like acidic fecal matter...like crap combined with an acidic-like smell. Taking my regular showers and brushing my teeth while applying deodorant twice a day does not help to get rid of the smell I sense. I asked my psychologist if he thought I reeked, and he said that I smelled fine. But I'm wondering if he lied to me and just said that so that he wouldn't hurt my feelings and avoid increasing my level of anxiety. I'm too embarrassed to ask anyone else whether they notice an unpleasant smell coming from my body and I don't know what to do. I'm not sure how to approach my medical doctor and explain to him the situation. I just want to know if it is possible that my body could actually be giving off an acidic fecal matter smell...have there been reports of other people having this problem? Every time I am around someone I notice that they scratch their noses, and that reinforces my belief that I do smell like crap. Is it possible for the human body to give off an acid and crap-like smell from the skin? Could it also be possible that my insides are rotting and therefore the rotting itself is giving off the foul smell? Do I smell or is it just inside my head? Is there something wrong with my nose? I'm so worried and embarrassed now about being around other people. Can someone please help me? Thanks!

  • I'm not on any medications at the current time. I was on Prozac, Paxil, Effexor, Lithium, Seroquel, Ativan and Valium in the past. My psychologist has diagnosed me with avoidant personality disorder accompanied by severe anxiety/depression. My psychiatrist feels that fear is the primary problem - not being able to confront my fears which in turn leads to severe anxiety/depression. The other day my psychiatrist diagnosed me with psychosis. He says I'm to well to be classified as schizophrenic. Anyway, enough of the mental problems. Physically, I feel nauseous most of the time, I have no appetite/thirst (I have to force everything down), I've lost considerable weight, I'm tired and lethargic most of the time, and I feel like I'm going to puke a lot of the times (especially in the morning) even if I haven't eaten anything (although I haven't actually puked yet). Sometimes I get diarrhea, but not all the time. Most of the time my stool looks fine, although one time I could have sworn I saw blood on the feces (I haven't seen blood on my feces since). Sometimes I get these short, intense shivers that run throughout my body which last for only a few minutes. I do eat apples, bananas, organic brown flax meal, probiotic yogurt, eggs, brown or whole wheat bread, water, V8 fruit juice, salads, vegatables, small amounts of meat and potatoes, and various other foods depending on the course being served.

  • I recommend you going to a metabolic specialist. You have moved to low protein diet regime. There are some metabolic disorders that cause the problems you are describing. Where are you located? There are some special metabolic doctors in some locations but, others I don't know about.

  • Am not sure If I was erased or not. You are eating a low protein meal. Your symptoms are similar to some metabolic disorders. May need to see metabolic specialist to check. Paranoia, central nervous system problems, personality problems and all can be part of some digestive metabolic problems. Especially those related to urea cyle disorders and ammonia.

  • Oh, I forgot to mention, I was also on Zyprexa and Zoloft as well (in the past). I'm sorry, my memory is very poor. Sometimes I also get an aching, tightness in my chest (upper left-middle). I usually belch a lot after I eat. In the past my medical doctor told me I had IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). The weird thing is, this time I don't even notice acid coming up from my stomach.

  • Ah more for Sherlock Holmes. If you have IBS and constipation --and your colon backs up -- yes you can taste or smell your own system when others can't. I know. I had troule with constipation til age 49 until my metabolic disorder was diagnosed. I have gerd also with the belching and spasms, etc. So, it seems that you may have some phsycological issues but also may have metabolic because of diet etc. I would hunt doctor for that. I don't know the exact intact percentages for each day over the past years but you could be turning ketonic (sp) and causing your body to catabolize and/or dump protein through your kidneys and colon. Metabolic and eating disorders can cause your body to have bad smells. It also causes stools to turn different colors. So I would turn to metobolic and dietician who understands what you are doing. As said, am not sure how much protein you are getting a day.BUT constipation can and does cause symptoms you describe. So does other colon problems like diverticulitis. Had employee that had that and always hated to get close because breath smelled like you know what. So may have to have GI to upper and lower endoscopy if not had. Gd'luck.

  • Hello Everyone,I have had this same problem for over 28 years. What I found out was theproblem could be Systemic Candida its a form of Yeast in the blood stream. It starts out in the Gut. The Yeast feeds on SUGAR and causes a ToxicExplosion in the Blood Stream causing Leaky Gut Syndrome. The SAD thing about this is Main Conventional Doctors don't have a cluewhat your talking about and won't even acknowledge this. What I ve learnedis some people will call you Crazy and all kinds of stuff. People FEAR what they don't understand, they will talk about you behind your back and lie to you about this problem. The cold thing about it the doctors will lie too, if they don't understand this. You will definitely have to visit a GOOD Naturopathic or Holistic Alternative Doctors they very much understand what your talking about. The onlyProblem with them a lot of them you may have to pay out of pocket, butits worth it. Ask them if if they have experience in treating Systemic Candida patients, also do online research about this. Read the book TheYeast Connection By David Crook to start.Eliminate SUGAR from your diet its poison to Candida people it also agesyou and causes inflammation in the body try Colonics. You cant' eveneat fruit nothing sweet or it will cause Body Odor This Fungus is a monsterto get rid of. I can go on and on what to do but, do your research. Buy aJuicer. Juice CELERY, CABBAGE, CUCUMBER, SPINACH, a least 16 ouncesa day or buy it already prepared from Whole Foods do this for least 3 months. Google the book The Body Ecology and Karen Tripps Candida recipes. For the people who have Vagina Odor you have an infection. Go to thedoctor you need a prescription called Flagyl 500 mg. For the people whohave a vaginal yeast infection go buy some Monistat Vaginal cream orgo to the doctor and get some Diflucan pills 150 or 200 mg this is a antifungal medication. It works for Systemic Candida to a certain extent.I'm not a doctor put try the SUGAR elimination for a week and see if youwill notice a difference:) Good buy and Good Luck for now.

  • I am a counselor and I recommend you seek a LPC Licensed Practical Counselor to explore your fear. I also recommend you go see a doctor (I saw an ENT) and have your blood drawn to run a comprehensive food allergy panel. I believe you have food allergies which is why you are experiencing nasueau and the feeling of brain fog and lethargy. I found out I am allergic to many things and I too felt like you did. Medication such as SSRi's are not always the answer. I take a super vit B complex also and it helps with my anxiety feeling. Good luck! P.S. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion from a different psychiatrist.

  • Hello Mathew,I would suggest the folowing:Relax, who cares if people scratch their noses for a bad smell or for an itchy nose. You may be too focused on other people.Do things that occupy your time and mind. When you are focused enough on something else, your mind wanders less to insecurities.Eat like a healthy person does. Drink 8 glasses of water a day, eat veggies/fruits, don't eat fried foods or junk food.Exercise, because this helps your mind and body feel better.Train your mind. Think of your mind as a wild horse. If you don't control your mind, it will control you. This starts with being quiet, calming your mind, bringing it to a state of receptivity from which you can calm it and then refocus it to a positive outlook --> meditation.Take less or no medication if you can.** After 10 yrs of seeing a therapist every week, and taking most of the medications you mentioned, I decided to go a different route, I felt therapy was just scheduling a time to focus on the wrong, when what I should have been focused on the right.I stopped taking meds. Now I do what I suggested above, lost 60 pounds, made a world of difference. Give my suggestions a try, best try ever.
