i cant sleep at night properly and keep on waking up early morning feeling unrefreshed, i havent been able to eat properly for the past 2 weeks, im not sure whether its loss of appetite or i ve just completely lost the rythm of my eating. i have small sharp pains in my lungs some times, my backs aching and so are my calfs and also my head feels lightheaded/tense and sometimes dizzy. strange sound on brething in as if breathing onto something. coughing up brown / rusty phlegm.

i have looked at the symptoms for lung cancer and they seem to be almost correct, my only doubt about this is that im 16 and therefore it would be very uncommon for me to have this.

i have been to the doctor and told him whats wrong and he told me he couldnt hear anything in my chest or my lung that sounded wrong

  • Hi Chris,Coughing up brown, rusty phlegm is a really bad sign. No matter what the doctor said, you definitely have something wrong in your lung(s). Can you check with a different doctor?I have a bunch of questions:Has this gotten worse at all? Did it come on quickly or slowly? Do you have any fever? What is your pulse rate? Are you able to take deep breaths? If you try, is their pain with the deep breaths? When you are feeling dizzy, check to see the color of your lips and fingernails...are they darker than usual, bluish at all?You are correct that lung cancer would be nearly impossible for someone your age. Do you live somewhere that has extremely poor air quality? Like near a coal plant, or in a house where someone is chain smoking? When did you notice the first symptoms, and in what order do you recall the symptoms coming up? How many days ago did you go to the doctor? Are your symptoms staying the same, or getting worse? Are you still going to school, or are you home in bed?Well, those are a lot of questions. So I'll wait for those answers, and then respond again.Best,Shula

  • well i have no fever, or racing pulse. But i did smoke for 1 and a half years but that isnt enough for lung cancer to for unless i had it before i started smoking.today was the first day i coughed up rusty coloured phlegm. i dont have fever and it came on exactly two and a half weeks ago. Also cancer only runs on one side of my family and only one member has died of it, and that was of throat cancer caused by smoking. i can sometimes get a nice deep breath in and the area i live in is not really close to an industrial estate or anything.im off school now as i have finished to take my gcse's but even though im at home i can still walk around and things but im just tired and really dont feel myself.i have been thinking about death a lot recently and reading symptoms on sites doesnt help but at the same time it gives me a better idea of what it could be.i feel dizzy most of the time but this could be because im not eating or sleeping normally.it started 2 and a half weeks ago and i was lying in bed after a day out with my friends all day and i felt fine and normal, i do recall having an itchy arm with a little red spot on but that was fine after a while, then i suddenly felt shakey and sick and out of breath. so i tried my best to go to sleep and i woke up next morning not really feeling like eating and not being able to breath properly. i went to the doctor the following monday and he said it could be anxiety attacks but i didnt really believe that as the feeling was constant and didnt come and go.i then went to the doctors yesterday and he's put me down for all the common blood tests, a liver function test, fasting (glucose) test and a 30 minutes breathing test he did mention a chest x-ray just to be sure, but then went back on the idea.the only problem with all of this is i feel like its getting worse everyday and i do feel like im going to die. Having read that cancer can sometimes be hard to cure when there are no symptoms and then says cancer its at an advanced stage when you can feel the symptoms, the fact i have to wait 3 weeks for the tests to be taken and then if he detects cancer then he'll give me a chest x-ray, scares me into thinking if i feel it now hows it going to feel then.i havent actually been told its cancer but im adament that it is, it doesnt seem to be anything else.Chris =]x

  • Dear Chris...there is hope Many people are experiencing your symptoms...as you know I am one of themI spoke with a woman very knowledgeable about ME/CFSshe said patients have "flare ups"I have them...sometimes 10 minutes...sometimes 10 hours, sometimes weeks/months at a time I'm not saying you have ME...I don't want to be accused of diagnosing people read last 4 pages of "It's a mystery until we solve it" you will find several people with your symptoms Try resting...I find when I flare up...if I rest...I feel better Best of luck and keep us posted on what is happening with youMany people having negative thoughts with this...you are not alone...Hang in there...we're all trying to figure this whole thing out...mommy cat

  • You might not like my advice... but here goes. There's a reason smoking is illegal for people under 18. The stuff you're coughing up is your body's way of telling you to quit smoking. I experienced the same thing... I was a smoker by age 16 and in the middle of the night I would wake myself up coughing up tar. The breathing problems you're experiencing is from being too young and smoking. So, relax, you don't have lung cancer. Quit now, though, and I'll guarantee you won't ever have it. Being tired and having a loss of appetite sounds like you're going through a depressed state, which is common at your age. Also, you need to remember that nicotine is a drug. (I'm preaching to the choir, cuz I'm a smoker still) You do seem like you're a worrier- jumping the gun to a fatal disease like cancer with the onset of symptoms. The doctor who gave you the assessment of anxiety when one of your symptoms is being tired... and none of your symptoms aside from maybe struggling with breathing, which would only be during a panic attack, are associated with anxiety.... You need to see a new doctor. I have no idea of your history, so being tired and loss of appetite might be indicitive of something else.

  • today im not feeling as bad and things are sort of looking up. im not constantly gasping for air but their still feels like something is very wrong.im still having pain in my lungs and still dont feel myself and light headed.i dont know whether i started thinking about my breathing on the night it went strange and where i was breathing from started to change.im having some tests soon by my doctor, i really hope something shows up on it just so i can get rid of theses bloody symptoms lol.i dont think i have ME because idont know how i would catch it. Also my mother knows a few people with ME and im nothing like them apparently.im not always tired but the times im waking up in the morning could be something to do with it. going to sleep at like 12am and waking up at 5am for the past 2 weeks.i had actually been on that website you were going on about - www.ahummingbirdsguide.com - before you mentioned it.i am trying to have a more positive out look on this but when i read some facts ( they want you to believe) i get scared. such as dyspnea that sort of sounds like my symptoms and i just read it usually occurs 5 to 6 weeks before death.it doesnt feel right to be thinking as much as i do about death at the age of 16, if not from the illness then from the annoyance its causing me.half of my problem is state of mind i think, because im thinking about it far too much, like every second of every day for the past 3 weeks its all thats been on my mind.he's put me in for so many tests but theyre in like 2 weeks so i wouldnt get the results till 3 weeks from now.chris =]x

  • I am never sure what is wrong with me. I will feel fine, then all of a sudden i will start to feel really ill. It doesnt help the fact that i have a MASSIVE phobea of sick. It started when i was about 4 years old, having a bad experience of it. So whenever i feel sick, i have a panic attack over nothing, wondering what will happen to me. I also suffer from light-headiness whenver i go somewhere really bright or if its really hot. I hate it as it always seems to happen when i am out, enojying myself and socialising. It happens at home alot too, but it is less annoying as i can just go to bed! I love food, but whenever i feel like this i never want to eat. Everybody says its just in my head, but i dont want to feel like this, i hate it and would never wish it on anyone! Mum said perhaps its the stress i'm under from school or at home with my dad. (My dad is extremeley violent and often reduces my mum to tears) I am feeling so confused on top of all this!CAN ANYONE HELP???

The nervous system of your body is reacting to all the negative stimulus coming from your mind. If you don't control your mind, your body will continue to react as if under great stress and these symptoms will persist. The human body is an interlinked creation of mind, body and spirit. One part affects the other. You need to get a very powerful outside stimulus that will have a dramatic effect on your negative thinking:For some, this will be transcendental meditation, for others, this will be their personal discovery of God thru a super-positive teaching ministry of one faith or another. Some will swear by hypnotherapy. Others will recommend a positive-thinking guru.Personally I recommend prayer and a genuine search for faith but the choices have to be your own.
