Hello all I am new to the board and this is really weird posting on here, but I am kind of in a dilema as to what to do. I have had on and off digestive problems for a few months, but it has always gotten better.

This past Wednesday night I started getting pains that felt like hunger pains, but they weren't hunger pains. I haven't been able to have a bowel movement since Wednesday morning. What I do get to pass is murky and has what looks like mustard seeds in it, no I haven't eaten any whole grain mustard or any mustard at all for that matter. II have taken 6 Correctol Laxatives and that was the only time I got the mucusy substance to pass, but that was all. I have tried to vomit to try and eleveate some of the fullness feeling in my stomach, but I couldn't vomit no matter what I tried nothing but mucus comes up.

I don't however have a fever, if anything my temp is running a little low. I am still having the pains in my stomach. Now though I am also having pretty bad muscle pains in my legs and now in my arms. I get a little dizzy from time to time, but that part passes.

I don't know if this is something to worry about or if I should just let it pass on it's own. How long does one wait on something like this before they seek medical assistance?

  • Get to a doctor now.DOMI don't want to rush to the doctor though if it's not serious. I am not high on doctors to be honest.

  • How do you know if this is something you should goto the doctor about or if it's something that will pass? I hate going to the doctor so bad!!!

  • If you have pain and constipation to the extent you indicate, you may have an obstructed bowel, which is very dangerous. With your symptoms, you should not hesitate to seek urgent medical care ASAP.

  • My feeling is, if you are posting this question and your symptoms are WORSE, not better, then you should get yourself checked out. You may want to try a naturopathic doc or Oriental Medical practitioner to help with your symptoms and get you back in balance. But most likely some allopathic testing is in order: stool test should be done to rule out pathogens in the stool. When you say you have had off and on digestion problems: do you have problems with chronic constipation? Have you had this pain before? Do you try to vomit after eating on a regular basis? (Are you Bulemic?) What do you eat on a daily basis? Are you taking any medications currently? Do you take laxatives regularly? How is your urination? Best wishesDOM

  • I went to the doctor yesterday. He has put me on miralax and prevacid and wants me to wait a couple more days before he does anything else. As of this morning the miralax has not worked, but the bottle says it can take up to 7 days to work. So I'm thinking I will wait a couple more days before I go back to the doctor to see if this stuff works. He did do a rectal exam and didn't find anything that way, so I guess that is good. No I don't have any kind of eating disorder and havent had in 20 years. I haven't changed my eating habbits at all, well at least not until this hit now food is not something I really want.\ I am urinating just fine that hasn't changed. I still don't have a fever, still some cramping in my thighs, but the dr. said that is normal for a backed up bowel. So I guess it's a waiting game now. Ugh I just wish either this stuff would work or the good ole dr. would go in and remove whatever the blockage is.

  • I have had this and cant figure out why, It may be psychological. Whenever I stay at my boyfreinds house (and we have been together for a while) I cannot have a bowel movement. I have gone in and tried and it just doesnt feel like I have to go, yet as days go by my stomach bloats more and has a gassy feeling. as soon as I go back home, I usualy go like 5 times that day in my own bathroom since its been 3 or 4 that i havent gone. He is worried and tries to encourage me to go, he even bought me nice spray for the bathroom incase that was it. He even took the kids (his and mine) for a ride one day so i could have the house alone and I very barely squeezed out a tarry one.(and yes I do eat fiber, I am diabetic)We are going to move in together in the next 6 months and I am afraid then I will never get to go , so I need to figure it out before that or I will be dead from literally being full of %^*&. I called a psychologist and she said play nice music, that didnt come close to helping, I even read when I am there. I cant seem to let myself go, he knows people do that action so what my blockage is with my brain is perplexing. anyone have any suggestions before I explode? heeelp even my pcp didnt know the answer.

Whenever I am on vacation and staying in a hotel with my family I cannot have a bowel movement. (On business trips by myself, I don't have a problem). Similar situation when we have guests in the house. It's as if I am fearful of being heard and my colon completely freezes up. I get the bloating and gas buildup also. It drives me crazy and I know it is a stupid reaction, but I can't control it. Music, running water in the sink, reading does not help me. The only relief I have found has been through anti-anxiety medication. I would suggest you consult with a psychiatrist and I hope you find something that works for you.

  • I am having much the same problem!! I googled my symptoms, and found only this thread...so hopefully someone (original poster) got a proper diagnosis, and can help me out.I am also the type of person who doesn't use pharmaceuticals, or even homeopathic remedies...at least not the ones from co-ops....it's just business....not cures...if they cured you...they wouldn't sell much product.Anyway, here's the deal: I am a healthy person, healthy diet, lots of hiking in the desert, lots of excercise at home. I NEVER have bowel problems. I have had sour stomach problems, but usually due to an unhealthy change in diet for road trips and such. So, one day, I get some stomach pains. I don't know why. No fever, no ill feelings.....until I eat (and I love to eat!) Soon after eating, my stomach would catch on FIRE!!! I spent about 3 days avoiding food until I got the shakes and loss of energy, then the same 3 days writhing in pain whenever I ate. Not a single bowel movement in these 3 days...not even the urge. Then, I finally broke down yesterday, and got some pepto-bismol tabs...no help at all. Then later in the night, I went and got some gas-x. It helped!!! I was burping and ******g in no time, but it says don't take more than 4 in a day...so the relief is sparse....I HAVE to eat. Now, today, I still haven't had even the urge to go...I've already ate my 4 gas-x, and I just want to die. I'm ***n near tempted to get more than a stool softener, and even some ipecac....I just want it gone.

  • I had something like this about 2 months ago. Still dealing with it. I was diagnosed with a stool blockage. I took magnesium citrate for it. Flushed my system (maybe). I still have about 20 minutes of pain/day somewhere in my intestines (stomach, lower, etc). I went about 2-3 days and had bad gas pains too. I still occasionally take GasX.Also, It's progressed to testicular pain. Dunno if it's related but if your balls started hurting, let me know. we may be in the same boat.I posted my ailment in both the sex and GI forums. Please help if you know anything.

Please help if you know anything.Someone mentioned the desert, and I just KNEW that I knew the reason you guys are hurting. I assume that you both live somewhere near New Mexico or in the Southwest. I had what you describe for 4 years, before a doctor from South America diagnosed me. Tell your doctor or whoever to test you for stomach ameoba. You get it from drinking contaminated public water (you know how they say don't drink the water in Mexico? The same goes for New Mexico.) Also, be careful - you can pass it to other people via kissing, sex, etc. To cure me, I was put on flagyl, and within a week, my pain was gone and I felt better again. However, I was never quite the same. I have more stomach problems than I ever did before I had the ameoba - but at least I don't have the constant agony after eating.Have you guys also gained weight during this? If so, this could be why. (I went from 130 to 175 in a month, and couldn't lose it to save my life) The ameoba eat your food's nutrients so you feel the need to eat more, but soon after eating you have intense pain and gas, right? And when you go, it's never normal, right?I practically turned into an alcoholic because the only relief for the pain at night (so I could sleep) was heavy drinking.I hope you guys can try this out and I hope it can fix you.

  • Did anyone ever get any answers for this? I have basically been dealing with the same thing for the past year. Here is a little history. I was one of the most regular people as far as bowel movements go. I am a 26 year old female, extremely healthy. I workout 3-5 times a week. Eat plently of fruits and veggies. And drink all my water. Last year it was like my intestines just up and stopped working properly. I only have bowel movements on fridays, and it is always soft stool. I have been to specialists who tell me I eat TOO MUCH fiber. Everyone thinks fiber is the magic tool to making you pass a bowel movement, but it actually can hinder the effects. My Dr. said he thinks antibiotics changed the flora in my intestines and I now digest very slowly. The pain in my stomach is caused by gas trying to get around the bolus as it moves through. The Dr. told me to chew a lot of gum and take mirilax. He doesn't want to do a colonoscopy because I'm only 26. Nothing has helped me. In fact I'm fairly certain it's getting worse. My gas is so bad that my boyfriend has a hard time being around me sometimes. The pain is almost unbareable. When it's bad I have a hard time keeping weight on, even though I eat regularly and am not passing stool. Has anyone dealt with this before?
