I will have a sore on the inside of my nose for several months. It will start to get a little better and then come back again. It is now inside both nostrils. It hurts to touch my nose from the outside, but you cannot tell that I have sores on the inside by looking at me regularly. Bactroban seems to make it go away for a while, but it comes back. It seems like one of them started after I had gone tanning in a tanning bed. I have gone to 2 different doctors and they did not help. If anyone else has experienced this, please let me know. Thank You.

  • Hi there,I have been suffering with a sore in the front part of my nose for over a year now. It is very painful especially when you touch the outside of your nose. A scab forms and when it comes off there is a little hole there and the skin around it looks eroded.I went to my Primary physician and he gave me a prescription for Bactroban. It did nothing! He then sent me to a Dermotologist. He didn't know what it was either so he sent me to an ENT and said I needed a biopsy. The ENT did not know what it is either but gave me a prescription for "TobraDex" ointment which is actually an eye medication. It cost $60.00 for a tiny, tiny tube. That was supposed to get rid of it and if the first tube didn't I could get it refilled. Makes a lot of sense to refill a med that didn't help at all the first time! Then...if the second tube didn't clear it up, he'd take a biopsy. Now the other nostril is becoming painfulAnyway...I went to a new Primary Physcian yesterday. He looked at it and immediately said it is a Staph infection and basically IMPETIGO!!! He prescribed Keflex (500 MG) capsules that I am to take 2 a day for 7 days.l He acted like he has seen this many times so hopefully this will FINALLY get rid of it! I am really let-down with both the Dermotogist and ENT.

  • You can have herpes inside your nose. A course of Acyclovir can help you. Suggest this to your docs.

  • All 3 doctors did say it was not herpes, Thank God!! I also thank God that I do not and never have had any herpes anywhere. I feel so bad for the people who do. I thank you for your suggestion though and if I had not already asked, I sure would have.

  • Don't freak out if you think it might be herpes. It's just like a cold sore in the nose. You can also have them on the roof of your mouth.

  • Hi there. I feel for all of you with the nose sores. I have been suffereing from sores in the nose, throat, roof of mouth, inside cheeks, lips, tongue since I was 17, I'm not 34 yrs old. I have been to Mayo Clinic & even Iowa City to specialists in dermatology, digestive & gastro & rhumatologists. To this day there is nothing that has been done. I've done all sorts of treatments over the years. Acyclovir, they thought it was herpes, that didn't work & I was on that for more than 3 yrs every day. I've tried Cholchicine thinking they were in the family of Bechet's Disease, it didn't work. I've tried countless steriods, which Prednisone does work if given in high strenths but this is not recommended for other health issues may arise. Since Feburary, this year, I have experienced 3 flares as my primary doctor calls them and I have not been without a sore on the lip & inside my nose since the first of the year. The only thing that has really helped and it does hurt when applying though is something that is bought over the counter. I put this inside my nose even though it doesn't say it on the tube. It is by Neosporin & it is LT, Lip Treatment. It costs about $4 US currency for a small tube. It can be bought at any grocery store or pharmacy. Good luck to everyone, I'm right there with you all~

  • Well...I just finished fourteen days of taking of 1000 MG per day of Cephalexin and it did nothing and in fact, the sore has now spread further up my nostril. Needless to say, it's still hurts like the devil. I was very optimistic and thought this round of antibiotics would finally get rid of it!! I really don't know what to do now!:(

  • Hi,About a month after taking the anti-biotic my physician prescribed, I noticed it wasn't hurting as badly. then one morning soon after I woke up and it was gone! There is still like a little rough spot there that I don't notice except when my nose is dry. It just kind of pulls but doesn't hurt...BUT it reminds me of how painful that sore was so if I make sure I rub some OTC anti-biotic ointment on it and also use OTC salline nose spray, that takes care of it. It hasn't reappered like it was at all, thank goodness. Tell your brother to not give up...even if he has to camp out in his doctor's office! Please keep us "posted" so we will know how he is doing. Thanks...

  • I also have these sores inside the nose. I actually have them right now. I seem to get them when the air is dry or when the weather keeps going back and forth from 30 to 80 in a day. Mine are in both nostrils. When I went to the OB for a reg. check up they were going crazy a few years ago. I had him test it for Herpes....it came back negative and he thought I was insane. The beginning of a sinus infection will make them come on too. Picking them will spread them and I believe they are contagious. Tobadex has worked - but that was real expensive. Muprocin and neosporin has some times worked. Doing a saline wash helps and so does vasoline before it gets to bad. Lubricate and don't pick...is the key....as hard as it may be.

  • Dana, you are so right. Don't let your nose dry out! Dry weather and especially central heating can dry it out and it becomes irritated and more than likely you will have another break-out. As you said the saline nose spray helps and vaseline will also. The minute I even feel a "twing" I put an antibiotic cream/ointment inside my nose. Use a clean Q-tip, NOT your fingers!, for each nostril as it will spread. Like you said, try to not pick at it even though it is hard not to! Unless you've had these before it is difficult for people to imagine how painful they are!

  • Well here I am again with another sore in the same nostril and it is even worse than the last one! Due to traveling and allergies I think my nose got too dry and BOOM! I've been using an OTC anti-biotic cream but so far it hasn't helped. I just got through with a 2 week round of taking some heavy duty oral anti-biotics for something else and still it remains. I forgot how much it hurts. I'm going to start using some saline spray and hoping to wake up one day soon with it gone again!

  • Hi everyone, One of my friends also had the problem of sores in nose. Basically there is no complete solution for removing sores. However, you can get relief from their pain by keeping some precautions. You should take a healthy diet and make sure about cleaning so that virus can be avoided. Cold sore remedies could be helpful for you in this situation. Cold sore remedies

I really don't know what to do now!:(Hello, I have suffered with sores on the inside of my nose near the point for a few years. It seems to be a problem only this time of the year or when I am very stressed. I have tried the bactroban or however it is spelled, didn't work. I have used all sorts of neosporns, with no luck. I have tried hydrocortizon, no change. So finally I went to a dermatologist. He said is it is MRSA. A strain of staph that is resistant to antibiotics, in fact when I use antibiotics it gets worse. I stopped using antibiotics and I use a nedipot with the salt solution to clean my nose. It helps some. I hope that helps and sorry for all the typos... grrr
