I am a 67 Year`old white woman...Up until 5 years ago I had straight fine hair. Now my hair is curley all over.. I would prefers the straight but it doesn't seem that I get a choice...The real problem is that the one side is has turned into what the hair stylist have called "ethnic hair"... The texture has dramatically changed...It is very dry, wirey and looks awful..It is only on the one side but I am afraid it will spread...Does anyone know what is happening??

  • Has anything changed recently in your life? Have you recently changed medications? Are you having health related issues? Sometimes, surprisingly, these things have a major affect on your hair. Thyroid and blood pressure medications seem to have a big affect. Also if you've had any sort of cancer treatments. If nothing has really changed and it's just an annoyance you can try chemically straightening your hair on the side where it's curly or perming the part that is straight. If nothing else but to give you some consistency on both sides. Good luck to you! :)

  • Thanks so much for your input...BUT---no cancer-no chemo--Do have inactive thyroid for 30 years and have taken synthroid for 30 years--I have also about the same time developed this strange acid taste in my mouth and have visited a dermatologist for my hands peeling. She said I have a fungus on hands...I am beginning to think I have a fungus all over my body--scalp-mouth and hands...I am such a mess...My only relief is baking soda and peroxide for the mouth--I have also been using peroxide and apple cider vinegar on my hair to kill the fungus????

  • Yeah, recently I started having really wirey hair. I did go through a change in levothyroxine pills. And this triggered it. So I saw a trichologist and she thinks it's too much acid from my pills. I lowered my pills and will take whatever meds she gives me. See a trichologist to see if she can give you something. Myohara international is good.

VKI just saw on a make over show a woman with the same problem. The expert hair stylist told her that a womans hair texture can change up to seven times in her lifespan. I was very intrigued because I'm an african american, and suddenly my hair has a nice big curl pattern instead of the afro I've had for 35 years.
