change in menstrual cycles

I have had a very strange menstrual cycle this month. I'm 35 and had 4 children (my youngest is 4) and I am normally every 28 days and bleed for 3-5 days. Normally the blood is red and pretty boring. I usually get a bit of pain for the first few hours and then it settles.

Today I got my bleed and the pain was full on all day and into the night. I wear a menstrual cup and had pain putting it in. When I took it out to empty it after a few hours it was really painful and my blood was brown. It wasn't brown spotting either it was the typical heavy bleed for CD1 but totally brown.

I have also had very swollen ankles and feet over the past few weeks and am wondering if that is related.

Any advice is appreciated
