I have been dealing with what I assume(only from several past cases of each) is either a urinary tract infection or a yeast infection. My symptoms however subside off and on, going completley away for long periods of time and reappearing suddenly. As soon as I finish urinating, the feeling of urgency is still there even though my bladder has been emptied. A stinging sensation is also sometimes present during or after urination. Sex is also sometimes painful and seems to significantly irritate if not cause the problem. All of these problems also began shortly after bevoming sexually active. I have had blood and urine tests both of which detected nothing. Drinking uncomfortable amounts of water and cranberry juice seems to temporarily subside the problem. Can anyone offer any advice? Anything will help, I'm desperate!

  • Urine tests: First; your doc must rule out a urinary tract infection. The standard test done in the doc's office is not accurate. Ask your doc to send your urine to a lab which does comprehensive tests. If you don't have a UTI , consider Interstitial Cystitis. Very recently, women with your symptoms like yours are finding that they have this condition. I had it for years, but every urologist, gynecologist or urogynecologist I visited told me that there was no way I could have it. You may go through many docs until you find one with the right training to detect this. I am getting proper treatment--bladder instillations and a new treatment called tibial nerve stimulation. If you have bladder instillations you're prone to bladder infections, so take Macrobid before and possibly after the instillation. Paramount is finding the right doctor. You may go through several. Painful intercourse, vaginal symptoms (after tests to make sure there's no infection), frequency, and feeling you need to "go" again after urination, are all symptoms of IC, especially if you do not have a UTI, or neurogenic bladder.
