UTI symptoms for 8 years but no UTI!

I've been suffering with the symptoms of a urinary tract infection/cystitis since I was about 12. I am now coming up to 21 years old and am still undiagnosed! The symptoms are abdominal pain, unbearable discomfort when pressure put on bladder, kidney cramps (mainly right side although often both), fever and sickness (not very often), pain when peeing, sudden need to pee and just general weakness/tiredness.

I've been tested for STIs, kidney function, bladder shape/size, IBS and coeliac disease. I've changed doctors about 5 times as they all seem to give up trying in the end! Currently I am taking codeine phosphate as and when I need to, and hot water bottles and hot (very very hot) baths ease the pain. I don't smoke and rarely drink alcohol, I also avoid acidic foods and coffee.

Has anyone had similar problems? And if so what did you do/what were you diagnosed with?

Thank you! X

  • UTI FOR 8 YEARS...
I am a young 56 yr old woman. I had all of the same symptoms you describe (no history of UTI's though) My Dr immediately ordered an ultrasound followed by a CT Scan. I, just yesterday was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer :(
Get my date for surgery tomorrow. Doc is concerned & will be checking during surgery that there is no Urachal Cancer as well. As a patient, you should be able to request tests that you feel you need. I'll certainly keep you posted on my condition & pray for you. Hang in there?
