Hello all,
Just wandering if anyone could help me. My 4 year old got what I thought was a small cold (runny nose, sore throat, very low fever around 100). But about a week after he broke out in a rash - I called my Dr.'s office and they told me to just give him benadryl. 6 days later I called again and they then diagnosed him with scarlet fever. During this time he started to have to urinate about every 15 - 30 minutes and it has been going on for days now. I mentioned that he started frequent urination to the doctor at the time and she said that the Amoxicllin would take care of everything. He's been on the Amox. for 3 days now with no signs of improvement as far as urination goes. Just wanted to know if I need to worry or not. A little "paranoid" now after they told me to just give him benadryl at first.
Thanks in advance for any advice...

  • Well, come to find out that the scarlet fever may have triggered obsessive compulsive disorder. (took him to another dr.) Along with being "obsessed" with urination he has started asking the same questions repeatedly and washing his hands more. Just to let anyone else who might be experiencing the same thing to know.

  • To the first individual with the 4 yr old that experienced this scarlet fever frequent urination occurrence. The same exact thing is happening with our 4 yr old son and I'm a little beside myself with no luck with the doctors. May I ask what the final result was with your son? Was it virus related or something else? My doc keeps thinking it's constipation but the xray shows not and he has regular bowel movements, eats lots of fiber so I don't get it.

  • Did you ever get a successful diagnosis for your 4yr old son-re: frequent urination potentially precipitated by scarlet fever? My son is experiencing the same symptoms, started around the same time frame he came down with scarlet fever. I dont want to do a blood test unless I have to.a very concerned parent.
