Resdiual Urine in Bladder

From May to September (begining) I have had 4 Urinary Tract Infections - my doctor did an Ultrasound of my bladder and kidneys and the results came back that I have resdiual urine left in my bladder. I am seeing a Uroligist on the 4th of October. I am terrified because these are my symptoms (besides the UTI's):

Bowel movements have changed over the past year - very hard to have a movement and when I do it usually hurts and hardly anything will come out (sorry to be so graphic) - When urinary tract infections cleared up I had blood in urine - last month a week and a half after my period I had spotting - Never had this happen before after my pelvic exam with my GYN I was bleeding - the next day I had a huge amount of clear discharge with blood in it - my stomach is "swollen" if my tubes weren't tied I would say I am pregnant - which leads me to my last period was 37 days ago - I haven't been this late since I was pregnant with my 3 year old - I constantly have to urinate and when I do it is very little - I am constantly tired, just feel like I can never get enough sleep - and i am always asking my husband if I have a fever because 75% of the time in the last few months I have just felt sick.

I am hoping this is just a woman thing that can be fixed, but I am very scared. I am 41 years old with 6 children - my oldest in college, 2 in high school, one in jr. high, one in grade, and the youngest hasn't begun yet. I know It sounds like I am very busy (which I am) but I don't think that is what's making me run down (all my children) - I worked two jobs for almost four years a couple years ago I quit and I wasn't this tired.

My biggest fear I guess is cancer - there is a history of cancer in my family, my grandfather had bladder or kidney cancer (not sure which one I was young), my uncle had stomach cancer, my mother had uterine, breast and lung cancer - and it was beleived her mother died of cancer. Just looking for some answers or anyone with similar symptoms.

Well, thanks for reading my post to whomever reads it.

  • I have seen the urologist and he is not too worried about the residual urine left in my bladder (30cc). He believes I may have Cystitis, my ultrasound was inconclusive due to the large amounts of gas that was blocking the view for my kidney, so I will be having a Cat Scan done on Tuesday of my bladder, kidneys, ovaries, uterus. On November 2 the Urologist will be doing a cystoscopy to look into the bladder. The urologist tested my urine for infection and it came back negative (I do have burning down there), he also looked for cancerous cells none were noted but he did send my urine to be tested by the lab due to the cancer that runs in my family. (Funny thing happened today – the doctors office called me to inform me the lad made a mistake and put my urine in the freezer – now I need to go back and pee again for them – oh well) He also put me on Alvitare(spelling?), to numb my nerves that go to my bladder this he says will allow my bladder to expand with more urine in it and I will void less often – (about every half hour to hour I was voiding) – it is helping, I defiantly see a difference today! The doctor also told me the change in my bowels definitely has something to do with the bladder issues. I am happy to be getting some answers – Hopefully all I will need are antibiotics and the Alvitare (spelling?)! Well, thank you to whomever reads this. :)

  • I assume you were taking several courses of antibiotics for the repeated UTI's? If so this can help explain your bowel troubles - antibiotics strip away the bad AND good bacteria, leaving you vulnerable for candida overload and repeated bacterial infections. Please get the very best PROBIOTIC you can afford - this should really help. Find one with several different strains of beneficial bacteria. You can find this online at www.vitacost.com or at any good healthfood store. I highly recommend this as continued antibiotic use will impair your immunity and really ravage your gut! I suggest an ultrasound of the lower abdomen and vagina...you could have ovarian cysts, or fibroids, which would explain the bloating, pain, and irregular bleeding. I would do this to rule this out. Please consider finding a more holistic doc to help you with your problems. Continue using Western medical testing, but find a naturopath, acupuncturist or NAET (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Techniques) practitioner. Often a more holistic approach can make a difference. Acupuncture is very helpful for Interstitial cystitis and repeated UTI's! Best wishes\DOM

  • Thank you for your response - the bowel changes started before the uti's - I also put down the wrong medicne (doh!) It is VESIcare I am taking. I will be having a CT Scan next week that will cover my ovaries and uterus. Thank you for the tip though on the antibiotics, I didn't know they could do damage to the bowels. I was taking Bactracim (Spelling??) When I got the UTI's. I am concerned about the Ultrasound not being able to see the left kidney - I am sure they won't miss a thing with the CT Scan. Once again, thank you for your response and I will consider the PROBIOTIC if all else fails. Thank you for the link - I looked real quick will have to look further into this when I have a little more time (it is very late right now). mm

  • Once again, thank you for your response and I will consider the PROBIOTIC if all else fails. I strongly urge you to take this regardless of the outcome of your ct scan...it can only help, and won't cause you any harm. A probiotic is really essential if you have any kind of bowel problems, whether diarrhea or constipation. Ask your doc about this and if he/she says this isn't helpful or necessary - get another doctor IMO. Most docs are enlightened nowadays to the benefits of a probiotic. Best wishesDOMBest i

  • I went for my CT Scan last night and I should have the results by Friday. I tried asking the technician if she spotted anything but of course they can’t say. I am just a nervous person. I am still waiting on my Urine (Cytology) Results, I am assuming they didn’t put my Urine in the freezer again – I will go by the rule for now “No news is GOOD news”. I will keep updating as I get answers. Thanks to whomever reads this. mm :)

The pain seems to be getting worse. I am going to call doctor but when I was tested for UTI no infections. FRUSTRATED!
