problems with urinating

It is difficult to know where to start with what the problem is that I have got.

around 2 weeks ago, I started having burning pains when urinating, i ignored it thinking it would go away, 2 days later i was still urinating with slight pain but also noticed blood so i started to get worried but also ignored it. that same night i then found that when i went to urinate the urine was not flowing out of me normally, it was only coming out of me in drips. I have been in this state since that. I went in to my local walk in centre, hospital, GP and they have all said its a water infection or swelling of the penis inside. I took the medication I was given which was ibuprofen for the swelling, and cefalexin which is an anti-biotic for the water infection. 48 hours later still no difference, so instead of just going back to my doctor i thought i would give it another couple of days and still no difference another 48 hours further into it.

i went to a different doctor for a 2nd opinion, he examined my penis, i explained everything that was happening when going to the toilet and asked him was it possible it could be kidney stones which he said it would not be without offering any tests. The reason i thought it might be kidney stones is that i can see the urine is getting into my penis urethra as it is ******n the side of my penis when i am needing the toilet, at all other times i can see its empty. i then asked whether it could be the prostate, without doing any tests other than the examination to the outside of the penis, he said that it may be that my prostate has enlarged causing the urethra to be squeezed. now i know this is a possibility which may be the issue, but i dont know whether to believe it or not. i am currently taking one a day tablets which are for relaxing the prostate to take pressure off the urethra, they are not meant to show any real results until the course is finished.

My issue with it all is that when i go to the toilet, the urine will only naturally come out of me as drips for just over 2 weeks now, yet if i take the head of the penis whilst it is dripping urine and squeeze it inwards around the opening, then the urine comes out as more of a full stream. This would say to me that there must be a kidney stone, or something stuck around the head of the penis as the urethra is getting full, but just does not pour out of the head other than drips unless i squeeze it. other than that could it be a case of just being swelling.

right onto the interesting bit, i have had a blood test for PSA and am currently awaiting the results to come back on this one. i have had a urine test and this came back clear, a small amount or white and red cells but all normal. i am not getting any pains anywhere else in my body, like around my kidneys or my back.

someone out there must have had a similar issue in the past and can help me work out what this is. I have got an appointment with the Urology department at hospital next Saturday and am not looking forward to the idea of possibly having camera's up me.

Thanks everyone for reading and any advice you can bring my way, apologies for the long message but didnt want to miss anything out, although I probably have so ask any questions.

Thanks

James

Best wishesDOM I am 26, male. yes i am sexually active, although i have not had any sexual activity for a few months now running up to all this. before all this started i drank alot of coffee, tea and cappucino and also now and again a glass of coke. since its all started i have simply only been drinking water and have been drinking i would say around a litre a day on average, if not more. i am needing to urinate alot, probably every 30 minutes on some days, on other days maybe slightly more than that. i do not get any blood in my urine anymore. i eat just general foods, like sandwiches, crisps when at work, and then at home i will have proper food like a tomato and pasta meal, or something like lasagne or burger and chips, but all oven cooked and not microwave meals. i hope this helps.

  • i missed out an answer to one of your questions, sorry. Yes I do have to get up through the night, not every night but when I do have to its quite a few times through the night with the need to urinate. I try to ignore it and hope it will go away so that I can go back to sleep but it never does so I have to get up, go to the toilet and squeeze the penis to get the flow out.

  • well the latest news is that i have had the blood test results back which have came back clean. so that would say my Prostate was never the problem. that is in some ways good news, in some ways bad news. it leads me to believe that it could therefore be a kidney stone or something bigger than that by being a bladder stone. I am just confused by the point of how the urine gets as far as the penis head and then does not pass through other than drips, that would say there is something gone wrong in the penis head. I have noticed that there is no blood in my urine, yet when I masterbate I find there is some blood coming out. Could this be a clue and should I tell the doctor?

Have you had another complete urinalysis done recently? They should specifically test you for candida - this is hard to test for but may be a factor here. They should also check your white blood cell count again. Have you taken a lot of antibiotics in the past few years? In the meantime, if you can, I suggest finding a good acupuncturist to help with your symptoms. Acupuncture is fantastic for urogenital conditions. Best wishesDOM

  • Dom, Thanks as always for the help. I have not had anything with a Urology clinic yet, my first one is this coming Saturday so I think I might keep quiet over the masterbation until after that as I dont want to cause more problems for them to think over. I am going to see my GP later today, I have stopped taking my medicatioin for the prostate from last night because now that I know its not the prostate there is really no point completing a course of tablets for it. I havent taken many anti-biotics in my adult life, in my childhood its possible but not that I know of. I am usually a fully fit adult and even when the smallest problem comes up I ignore it, if it gets worse then I go and trouble my GP over what it could be. Do you think that when I do go to the urologist or my GP that I should ask them to watch what happens as I go to urinate, or is this something out of the question to request. As even though I have had my penis examined, it was only when my penis was fine and no urine was trying to pass through and so it would have felt normal.

  • i think i should have added more notes before now, but i have been so happy that things had got better and now they are worse again. on Saturday just gone I had a cystoscopy in my penis, they were not able to get in very far due to finding a urethra stone. this was very large they said and could not be easily removed and therefore they left it in there. i was able to urinate really well with a good flow after this, and even though there was pain and blood i was just happy about seeing myself being able to have a full flow. it has been a good flow until today, when the problem has got worse, its like as the stone has been left in me, it has got stuck again therefore my urine is now only coming out in drips again. i am now awaiting my second appointment with the urologist whenever that may be in the future, i am awaiting the letter to come through but they said that i will just be on a waiting list. typical health service here in the UK.

Unfortunately this is a problem that doesn' have a quick fix:(. Do you drink a lot of water? I would drink as much water as you can stand and also try pure cranberry juice ( no sugar ) to help with the urination. Also try fresh parsley tea - mix a bunch of fresh washed parsley in a couple cups of tea and steep for 20 minutes...drink a cup or more a day. Natural diuretic. Stay away from greasy fried foods and caffeine and alcohol. There are some good herbal products to help with kidney stones, but I don't know if they will help a stone that is stuck in the ureter... Best wishesDOM

  • :D:)right well i am happy to update that this weekend since Friday I have been in hospital until today and have had an emergency operation. they had to rip my penis to bits to get the stone out as it was 15mm, they said the average size that gets stuck is only 5mm-7mm so mine was pretty much triple that, no wonder i was in so much pain for ages. the stone is now out of me, i have been on a catheter and drip, along with IVU. i am passing urine again in mass amounts when it flows through due to them having to open my penis up more than naturally it should be. this should heal over the next few days. thank you everyone for your advice when i have needed it most, i am glad that i am now on the road to recovery. there might be some permanent damage that has been done to my pipeworks from the kidney down to the outside world, but lets just hope and pray its not all that bad thanks again. James :D:)
