My mother is 72 years old and has been on Synthroid for a thyroid condition for 10 years. In the past couple of years, her behaviot has changed. She has become paranoid, hostile and depressed. She has an appointment for a through physical in a couple of days. Are there more extensive tests for thyroid function that we should request? Should we ask for a referal to an endocrinologist? I fear that she may be experincing some type of dementia, but don't want to unknowingly neglect any physical cause for her symptoms. Please help!
