I have just been diagnosed by my GP with Postpartum Thyroid Disease.

I had my son 4 1/2 months ago. In the last 2 months I noticed I had become extremely swollen and although I was walking for an hour a day 3-4 times a week and eating a balanced diet I was not loosing weight but gaining at a rate of 5 lbs per month.

My doctor has put me on 3 tabs of Eltroxin (1.5mcg per day). I have been on the meds for a week now and have not seen any visible signs of the meds kicking in. I know it can take several weeks for the meds to kick in so I am waiting patiently.

IN SHORT HERE IS MY QUESTION:

IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE DIAGNOSED WITH PPTD WHO CAN TELL ME IF I CAN EXPECT TO LOOSE THE WEIGHT GAINED (10 LBS) AND HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE?

ONE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS TO THE ELTROXIN IS WEIGHT LOSS, I AM FRUSTRATED AS I HAVE NEVER BEEN "NOT PREGNANT" AND WEIGHED THIS MUCH AND I AM GETTING DEPRESSED READING ALL THE POSTS THAT SAY THEY GAINED WAY MORE WEIGHT ON MEDS AND ONCE THEY KICKED IN THE ONLY STABALIZED THE WEIGHT AND DIDN'T LOOSE WEIGHT.

I WAS DIAGNOSED ABOUT A MONTH AGO I HAD A MISSCARRIAGE ON VALENTINES DAY AND RIGHT AFTER I LOST 47 POUNDS IN ONE MONTH. THE DOCTOR SAYS THATS THE NUMBER ONE SIGN. I HAVE NO DOUBT YOU WILL LOSE WHEIGHT THAT IS THE NUMBER ONE SYMPTOM TO HYPERTHYROID. REMEMBER HYPER IT REALLY SOUNDS LIKE U HAVE HPOTHYROIDISM HYPO. THATS WHEN YOU GAIN WHEIGHT. YOUR NOT TAKING STEROIDS YOU SHOULDNT GAIN WHEIGHT. ONCE THE MEDICINE KICKS IN, IN ABOUT 4 WEEKS YOU WILL LOSE THE WEIGHT. GOOD LUCK
