I am 26 and I was diagnosed with CFS/M.E in 1998.
My symptoms include extreme fatigue, short term memory loss, sore throat, croaky throat, severe headaches, muscle and joint aches and pains, mood swings, PMS, spots, serious loss of labido and weight gain since 2003. I have put on nearly 3 stone since then! I was a size 8/10 3 years ago. I am constantly bloated, I eat a healthy diet and exercise regulary but the weight keeps piling on and I can't lose it!
I was sent to hospital with suspected meningitis following a bout of severe headaches, they now think it could possible be migraine.
I have no sex drive at all and havent had sex with my boyfriend for 10 weeks, I love him very much and want to be with him so I know its not because I have gone off him.
I have been to my GP who tried me on exclusion diets that didn't work, he changed my pill and has now prescribed me Reductil, an appetite suppressant - however i don't over eat!!!! I have had my throid checked 3 times but they have all come back clear!
I am at my wits end as noone is commiting to anthing or giving me any real answers!
I am not depressed and I enjoy life but I do get mood swings.
Do I have a throid problem????
Can anyone shed any light????

  • I was recently diagnosed w/ hyperparathyroidism and I also have some of the symptoms you have listed.I am tired and overly fatigued, muscle, bone, and joint aches. I also get bad headaches, memory loss, confusion, mood swings, and lack of sex drive. These are just some of my symptoms.I found a good website on this disease parathyroid.com. Have your Dr. check your calcium and pth levels to see if they are high and who knows maybe this is what you have too or maybe not. check it out.

I had testing done because I felt dizzy, my tongue felt funny, I felt weak, and famished at times. My sugar (I was told) came back high. I was retested (I guess for diabetes) and the diabetes results came back negative. I told the nurse, from my doctors office, that I get all these symptoms....why would I if something werent going on? She asked what my symptoms were..........so I told her. Then she says well maybe I have low sugar at times. (Dont they know the test came back High?) Jeez!I dont get it. I have these symptoms and the results come back negative. One of my sisters has Graves Disease and the other has Hypothyroidism........I can understand your fustration!!!Sincerely,Francine

  • Francine make sure when test thyroid they are using either the 0.3 - 3.04 or the 0.4 - 4.12 test ranges for TSH. If not your hypo T could be missed. At thyroidtoday.com there's new protocol for determining whether someone is hypo T. They suggest anyone with a TSH over 3 (using the 0.4 - 4.12) is suspect hypo T. Euthyroid or normal functioning is <2.5.

Were a Free T3, Free T4 and a TSH all performed? Get a copy of your test results. Read what I wrote to Francine about thyroid test results and ranges. Read on the website thyroidtoday.com for more info.I was diagnosed in 2000 with Fibro and didn't have it. And it was confirmed by an endo, a rheumy, and a dermy. But I never had it. Both my current primary doc and my new endo believe I've had hypo T for years and problem since 1974-5-6. I started gaining weight in 1977.Also check out sleep apnea and it's symptoms. It is a symptom of hypo T as well.
