  • DANG! I think this goes beyond the realm of just "hypothyroidism"... you have a serious medical condition at this point. I'm "hypothyroid".... mine is slowly taking a downhill fall... which does make dieting difficult. metabolism is shot. but yeah... GET BLOOD TESTS. At this point, I would see a doctor, get tests... keep fighting and going back until you get someone who takes this seriously.

  • Looks like you need to go to doctor and get tested for Hypothyroidism. It is usually diagnosed with blood test: the measurement of thyroid stimulating hormone. It is manageable condition, treatment usually involves oral thyroid hormone preparations.

My eyelashes not only fell out but they started twisting and turning in toward my eyes. My eye doctor told me that's just part of Blepharitis. Well apparently not because ever since I got on the correct dose of thyroid medication my eyelashes are growing back in and they don't twist and turn in toward my eyes. Also all my remaining eyelashes started turning gray. They are now turning back to beautiful, long, black eyelashes.I had one ED doctor tell me that all the hair on your body is effected by your thyroid. I told him my former primary doctor told me that eyelashes are NOT effected by your thyroid. He was shocked at the lack of information some doctors have. You definitely have symptoms of hypothyroidism. Get to a doctor ASAP and get your TSH, Free T3 and T4, and antibodies tested.Make sure your doctor doesn't start you on some far out dose either. Start low, 25mcg or even less and slowly increase the dose.Read more about your thyroid at:http://www.thyroidmanager.org/andhttp://www.freewebs.com/thyroid

  • It sounds like you do indeed have HYPERthyroidism. I always suspected I had HYPOthyroidism and had blood tests repeatedly for over 10 years, but they always came back within the "normal" range. I went three years without seeing a doctor because I figured I had exhausted all of my options, but when I started seeing a family practice physician recently, he said he feels I do have hypothyroidism (he is the one who brought it up)! When I told him that the blood tests always come back normal, he said doctors rely too heavily on blood tests rather than common sense. He said if you're in a room with a broken thermostat and you're sweating like crazy, but you go over to check what the temperature reading is and the thermostat says it's only 60 degrees, are you going to think you're crazy or are you going to assume the thermostat is broken? I started thyroid medication 6 months ago and I feel absolutely great for the first time in about 18 years. And to the first poster, I too have greying eyelashes - and I'm only 33 years old. :o( I hope the thyroid medication helps to reverse this - it's very noticeable as the rest of my hair is black.
