Hi, I was recently diagnosed with hypo after a visit to the doc. office for some tingling and numbness in my fingers and numbness in my forearms. The sensations began on 11/13 and i started synthroid on 11/26. They have progressed to my upper arms and I have difficulty gripping anything and i cannot lift anything over 5 lbs. with either arm. I have also noticed some tingling and numbness in my feet and lower legs as well as some weakness, though not nearly as severe as my arms. I'm wondering if this is really just my hypo or is it guillain-barre or something else. I have normal everything else including vit. b and such, am not diabetic and I'm only 22 (male). I did have a virus prior to the symptoms, just a scratchy throat and stuffy nose, no fever or cough. Any suggestions/advice would help. Thanks.

  • Hi - I have had Hashimoto's for about 6 yrs, and also had sudden onset of peripheral neuropathy on 4/22/09, was falling down a lot, and dropping or knocking over things - I was terrified. I have had numerous tests, including MRIs w/wo contrast, 2 sets of nerve conduction tests/EMGs, several sets of blood tests, all within normal range, and was finally told to see a psychiatrist. Today, finally, I have been able to coax my Dr. to order a full thyroid panel and refer me to an endocrinologist. I'm not a Dr., but I think thyroid can make whatever else is ailing you feel worse and last longer, such as your scratchy throat. You may want to read Thyroid Power or books by Broda Barnes. Good luck. Hi, I was recently diagnosed with hypo after a visit to the doc. office for some tingling and numbness in my fingers and numbness in my forearms.
