 Has anyone ever heard of Hypoparathyroidism? My doc told me the other day that my epileptic seizures may be caused this.?? I also suffer from joint pain including muscle spasms particularly in the hands, tiredness and abdominal pain - all symptoms of it.

It came about as a possibility due to hair loss and dry flaky skin and trouble breathing in conjunction with feeling anxious and depressed on a new drug we were trying. I thought it might have been side effects but doc doesn't seem to think so.

Just recently another member of my family was diagnosed with it and i hear its herreditory? I also hear that seizures can occure due to calcium deposits?

If anyone has heard of this hypoparathyroidism thing can you please answer back with some info or web pages or stuff.

thankyou.

  • Hi there, I've been diagnosed with the same thing and It DOES relate to the muscle spasms in the hands and the dry skin. I had both of my hands worked on for Carpal Tunnell syndrome and later (about 5 years) had an Endocrinologist tell me that this was the cause of everything. I've been taking a Powerful VitaminD and Calcium pill and will have to take it for the rest of my life. I've been hospitalized for numbness including my face and had to be on IV's with Calcium for 8 hours. My grandmother has similar thyroid problems, but not this one. We have the calcium deficiency that will not allow our bodies to absorb the calcium which could lead to weight gain in the abdominal area. You can pass it to your children, but shouldn't let the fear of it be a reason not to conceive or try to. So far, my husband and I haven't had any luck; however, I'm going on the 7th month of medicine so I'm probably not up to wear I should be on the Calcium chart. I was below a 3 when I was paralyzed in hands and face, I was a 10 at my last appointment and have to have follow ups. I have a heart condition and I've been told that it's linked to this disease as well. Do you have any heart murmurs or anything like that???? Hope this helps...Oh, a good site is WEBMD....they are among the sites that are reliable. erin. davis
