I had an epidural on the 27th of last month.
I woke up from a procedure felt like a herd of cattle ran over my spine.
I have had epidural's in the past so I know what's normal pain.

The attempts done on me...try this on....6 times!
I have pictures to prove these crazy excessive sticks!

I started with these BANGING head aches..ended up getting an epidural blood patch.
This fixed the headaches...BACK PAIN...NO..still in agony..I live laying on ice and on my back..
Only to add insult to INJURY...I now have these painful & annoying SPASMS all over the place.
I have ZERO control over trying to stop the "twitch" sometimes they can SHOCK through my entire body!
Stress..will make the spasms and twitches..more frequent!
I ended up getting an MRI..and these are the results...
RESULT:
The lumbar spine is normally aligned. There is normal marrow and cord ssignal. There are noo abnormally enhancing lession.Vertebral body and disc space heights are preserved. There ishyperintense T1/T2 signal in the right posterolateral disc space at L4-5 and centrally att L5-S1 duggestive of an annular tear. There is borad based disc bulge at L3-4 with mild neural foraminal stenosis.
IMPRESSION:
1.Annular tear posterolaterally at L4-L5 and centrally at L5-S1 that enhances on the post-gadolium images.

I went to a "Pain Management " Dr..all they want to do is PILL PUSH..
I don't want anymore pills..I want to be fixed!
Tell me please..what should I do next??

Thank You in advance..

  • Its remarkable how similar our stories are. I had an epidural on 15th feb, the registrar attempted to insert the needle 3 times, finally pushing the needle in 6cm. I developed a dural puncture headache while still in labour, and had a blood patch done by another registrar 2 days later that did not work. I lay in hospital in agony for 8 days, was seen by a number of doctors as the anasteasiologists insisted that this was not a post dural punctur headache. Finally, on day 8 I had a second blood patch which provided instant relief. The doctor doing it commented that he only had to insert the needle 4cm!My back felt so stiff like a piece of wood and within 3 days I developed shooting electrical pain that travelled down my buttocks and back of my legs down to my knees. I felt fine lying down but wad in agony when I stood up from supine position or from sitting down. I had also begun to spasm when I got up and have my legs give way under me so that I fell to the floor. This was especially painful on my left side, feeling particularly bruised/swollen to the left of my tailbone as well as having a constant ringing in my left ear.I contacted the pain clinic and came back to hospital for an MRI. After a long wait I was told the scan was all clear and that within a week or 2 I should make a full recovery. A week after the scan I get a call telling me they found something on the scan, fluid around one of my nerves, and to come back for another MRI in 3 weeks time to see if has dissipated.I am in agony with this shooting spasm pain. All I can do is take painkillers but I just want to make a recovery instead so that I can look after my baby. I feel really let down and abandoned by the anaeathetics department.Did your symptoms ever get better? Did you recover from your injuries? I need some hope...

I'm so sorry for your back pain. I had an epidural during labor, and after I had some back pain with this intense burning. I thought it was nerve damage, but it lingered away. I don't have any medical training, but it sounds like you have a damaged nerve. Did your back doctor mention that it may be in a nerve? Also, have you seen a chiropractor? I know some have spinal decompression and there's a newer treatment called cold laser therapy. The 'twitch' that you describe sounds like it's a nerve-related condition. I hope my input helps you. I suffer from spinal stenosis and a chiropractor weekly. I get both treatments I mentioned above, and they really relieve the pain. Good luck,Penelope
