A few years ago, I only had two of these on each shoulder. They are red "grooves" on my shoulders (they are concave), and they are long (2-8 cm) strips, not very thick. They are less than 1 cm deep but they do go into the skin.
They do not hurt or itch, though it does concern me that I have been getting more and more recently.

1) what are these?
2) Are they harmful and how do I remove them?

  • they kind of look like stretch marks or long scratches....I suppose they might be some type of parasite. You should have a dermatologist take a look.

  • Do you weight train or lift heavy things? Or have you gained or lost a lot of weight? I am assuming you are male?

  • Those do indeed look like stretchmarks. They come with weightgain, but they can also be a symptom of elevated cortisol. You should ask for a AM and PM cortisol test as well as a 24 hour urine to rule out cushings disease. Kiera

  • They do look like stretch marks, but do you have any other symptoms? - fatigue, insomnia, joint and muscle pain?Bartonella (Cat Scratch Fever) can cause stripes like that, and ticks and fleas carry it.
