After being treated for a skin virus I am left with several pinkish/purplish scars. With the exception of one, they are not that deep. Nevertheless, they are a source of anxiety and I would like to seem them dissapear as quickly as possible.

Is there anything I can be putting on these marks to fade them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • My Dermatologist told me that creams marketed for scars (like Mederma) don’t work at all. He told me to look for a silicone scar treatment at the drug store. They are silicone sheets that you can cut to cover the scar. It may take several months, but these are really the only thing that will help heal the skin. You may have to go to a few drug stores to find them. I found them at CVS and they cost around $20. Otherwise, you can get IPL laser (photo regeneration) or Fractional Laser treatments (at the doctor’s office & only by a certified tech). These cost $300+ per treatment and require one to five, or sometimes more, treatments. IPL is for redness and brownness and shrinks pores and capillaries. The Fractional laser is more intense and treats pitted or raised scars. The lasers produce quicker results but have down time that lasts atleast a few days. I just had my 4th IPL session. Make sure and ask for the numbing cream, I don’t care what your pain tolerance is, you’ll need it and it’s no additional charge. Good luck!
