I am not sure what I got into. My face iches and is red and swollen all over it started last night and there isn't any blistering Which I had expected since I spent the whole day out doing yard work yesterday. I thought this was some kind of poison but the absence of blisters make me think it is something else. What ever it is takeing two benadryl didnt help at all.The rash iches but when I touch it it actually hurts a little like a sunburn may feel and it is swollen and raised. there are splotches that are redder than others and the bumps are not uniform. My face is also hot to the touch. Does anyone have any ideas?

Been dealing with it since May 2007 but got really bad since June coming back and going away and coming back again. Right now I am swollen in my face, my eye, red rough rash on my face that hurts and itches and feels warm to the touch like a sunburn. Only relief I get is ice in an ice pack.Hope you and I find relief soon. All the best,Angie

  • My two year old daughter has this same problem but it is all over her body and all over her face. The benedryl helps but it keeps coming back. I am wondering if it is a reaction to something touching her skin. She gets huge welts and her legs and/or hands will be red and very hot to touch. Hope someone has an answer!

  • Has anyone been able to diagnose the problems with the rash? My duaghter has had a reaction about 6-7 ties in her life she is now 10. Each time it gets worse. This last Friday she woke up after having the rash the day before to have her whole face swollen like a ballon and it was going down her neck. We took her to the ER but nobody knows what it is. Today Sunday her swelling has gone down but her skin is scaley from being swollen and her skin is still sensitive.

  • My 2 year old son woke up with all these symptoms yesterday morning. I took him to the ER. The doctor said it was caused from over exposure to the sun. It had been really hot the day before, I had treated him with 60+ SPF baby sunscreen. He started turning red the evening before. I assumed it was sunburn and felt like the most horrible mother in the world! As the evening went on, he got redder and redder. The swelling didn't show up until he got up the next morning. His cheeks, eyes and ears were swollen and red and hot. The redness spread down his neck. The doctor said Benadryl wouldn't help and to keep him out of the sun for the next three days. I thought the doctor was full of it and i gave him Benadryl anyway. It seemed to help a little, but the next morning he was just as swollen. After researching, I found that there are a lot of cases of red swollen faces after too much sun. In children as well as adults. I guess the doctor may have known what he was talking about. He did go to school for medicine and I didn't! I'm planning on making my son stay in the house for next few days to see if it helps. Won't be much fun with a cranky 2 year old who is swollen red and itchy. Hope this helps someone.

  • Hi pinkmoi1970,Refrain from eating fruits with high acid content such as pineapple, kiwi, orange juice etc. soya milk helps reduce the swelling.

Today Sunday her swelling has gone down but her skin is scaley from being swollen and her skin is still sensitive. My 9 year old daughter had been suffering from the same sort of reaction for several years and doctors couldn't give me anymore details than they thought it was an allergic reaction. A raised rash/hive like reaction spread across her entire body as well as facial swelling and rash with more severe reactions. With some research I stumbled across an article on the artificial color Tartrazine (yellow coloring 102) and sunset yellow (coloring 110). Apparently these are common food colorings in many foods, in particular thing that kids find particularly attractive (lolies, crisps, cereals etc). While the colorings are apparently banned in the states (not sure whether this is 100% true or not) they are still widely used in Australia and other countries. I did a trial with my daughter and removed anything from her diet that contained these 2 colorings for almost a year we have had no further reactions.....until 2 nights ago when she had one of the worst ones yet still is still covered in red blotches and her face is swollen and red in particular around the mouth. Ive gone over everything that she has eaten in the last few days and the only only other thing i can find in anything she has had was flavor enhancer 621 aka MSG. While i am aware of the multiple reactions that this substances causes in humans can anyone verify if it also can cause skin reactions as well. I usually avoid it due to the fact that it triggers my Asthma. As for the colorings they produce all the above symptoms that are discussed in this thread and i would strongly suggest eliminating it from your childs diet if you find it present as the reaction rarely lessen but get progressively worse.

  • All of a sudden, my face became beet red and swollen blistered looking moisturizer or anything on face. I just want know what happened, what caused this? , It sounds like an allergic reaction or contact dermatitis. Avoid using any lotions and creams over the face.__________________Click Here For Natural Genital Warts Cure

    8 Surprising Facts About Cholesterol

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • My 14 year old son started with hives about 6 months ago. Mostly on his back, chest and arms. Been to the pediatrician a few times and he was diagnosed with idopathic uticaria (basically hives where cause can't be identified). He's been on a number of things Allegra, Claritin, weeklong steroid treatment (that helped a lot but came back as soon as he was off of them). He has good days and bad but the problem is the docs can't figure it out. Allergist did blood work pointing to a hypothyroid so Endocrinologist recently put him on synthroid for that. We were crossing our fingers and praying that was the cause of his hives. Reason I'm writing today is he woke up today with his face swollen (could synthroid be causing that?). We need to identify the cause so I'm reaching out anywhere I can. Unfortunately, reading these posts it looks like that's the thing eluding us all. Good luck to everyone suffering from this. It's heartbreaking for parents to watch their children go through this and not be able to help......

  • My son had the same rash all over his body. He was so uncomfortable wouldnt sleep and it hurt him. I took him to the doctor and found out he had duel ear infections from cutting 4 molars at once. The dr. said it is very common for children to break out in hives when they become sick. They put him on an antibiotic and a steroid and it went away within 3 days. I mysef just recently encountered a rash in which you all are describing. I discovered it was called pityriasis rosea. It does itch and it does hurt. There is nothing you can do for it and it could possibly last up to 6-8 weeks. Its painful and it burns like a sunburn even in the shower. I wish you all the best of luck.

  • I got this for the first time about 6 weeks ago. At first my primary care doctor thought it was allergic reaction to something I may have encountered in the woods and gave me a steroid shot. 5 days later I was back in his office with another outbreak. It is like hives on my face. It will get better for a few days while taking a steroid and as soon as I get off it comes back with a vengience. I ended up in the ER on day and the ER doctor immediately said it was a beta blocker I was on for blood pressure. I had been taking this drug for 10+years with no side effect. He said you can become allergic to it at any time. He gave me a steroid shot and a prescription for prednisone 50mg and said see an allergist. I saw an allergist who concurred with the ER doctor and asked me to see my primary care doctor to take me off the beta blocker. I ended up in the allergist office again friday because I had been having reaction all week. He said it could take up to 8 weeks for the drug to be completely out of my system and stop reacting. It has been 12 days since I was taken off and this past week has been one of the worst yet. However, today has been much better. The allergist prescribed a cortisone cream to put on my face twice a day and it has helped a lot. Also a lotion call Sarna has helped keep it moisturized so it doesn't dry out so bad. Hope this helps. A 100% culprit is almost impossible to pinpoint. Good Luck to everyone.

I went to the hospital that morning and they said it was just a one time thing and that i must have been allergic to something in the air. today i started with the rash again for the first time in several years and am a little worried about swelling ( i've already started to swell on my chin and lips.) good luck!

What my mother does is that she would put a wet cloth on my face and when i would sleep i would put rlly cold tea bags on my parts(mouth and eyes). Avoid the sun(i just stay in the house when i have this rash and my mouth gets swollen shut so i cant eat :/)....Also use cool water when you shower and wash your face gently. I reccomend Cetaphil and vaseline. Its cetaphil LOTION not cream LOTION. Im having this rash right now and im in the philippines so its hard to get rid of D:
