8 weeks ago my dogs were fighting so I did the mum thing and tried to separate them, result, staffy hanging off my thumb, nearly detaching said digit.
Hospitalised in plastic surgery unit for 13 days and had 7 ops, one every other day as an infection set in. had to have a skin graft and extensive tendon repairal and have lost most of the muscle below my thumb - ouch, not pretty, not going to be modeling nail varnish any more.
Today, visited consultant who commented that hand was still swollen and healing quite slow but to be expected after 7 serious ops. he noticed a bruise under my finger nail on the finger that was damaged and at present will not straighten due to scarring. He asked if i had suffered trauma and the answer was no. he then called a colleague for a 2nd opinion and said he didn't want to worry me but wanted a photo of the bruising so that he could compare it next visit - 4 wks time.
The bruise started like a horizontal line that has travelled down the nail and now resembles a backward 7. he also commented that there were little pin *****s around the bruise.
now as soon as he said i don't want to worry you - yes you have guessed it, total paranoia sets in, i nearly lost my thumb, and thought the wound was healing well, then today .....
