My 6 month daughter has a dermoid cyst on the outer corner of her left eye. We have to wait until she is a year old to take it out. How is this procedure done and how long does it take?

  • Incision and surgical removal of a dermoid cyst when my child was 16 months took 3 hours (under general anaesthesia) and required some reconstructive surgery due to affect cyst had on the development of her nose, where it was located. The 1st 3 days after surgery were the worst, but recovery was fairly quick. Now, she is 4, and it seems that the cyst has regenerated -- the doctors had told us this was possible, so I would say this is something to look out for, but not necessarily possible to avoid.
